Battery kept dying...

I just hooked up my new system...a 600 watt amplifier, and component speakers. I was just testing the install out and while the music was playing the sound started to crackle and then it went dead. I had to jump the truck to start it. I then tried it again and it played for a few minutes...but when I tried to adjust the amps filter same thing happened again...

Anyone help with a diagnosis??

when you are running an amp and speakers or subs, make sure that the engine is running or it will drain the battery, try a capacitor or a yellow top battery.

Thanks... I'll keep that in mind.

I think I found out the cause though. I had the driver's side seat out and the two harnesses at the bottom were unplugged. The airbag light would stay on whenever I turned the key. Once I put the seat back in... everything worked normally. So... I guess it was because the seat was out??

You bet! I was really worried I was going to have to go back through the entire installation and look for problems.

Same thing happened to me...

Had a system 'professionally' installed. Battery went dead in an hour.

Found out the tech had put a screw through a wire bundle that lay between the carpet and the floor when he screwed down the speaker box. Caused a short that messed up the amp and killed the battery.

Have you people noticed that a large percentage of folks that put sound systems into their trucks, burn their trucks up? I am a firefighter, and I'd say that probably 40-50% of our car fires comes from people putting amps and crap in their vehicles. If you're gonna do that, USE A FUSE! I would have burned up my Jeep several times if it weren't for fueses!

Didn't know that... I have a fuse! Hopefully I won't become one of your statistics.
