Future System Planning...thoughts?

Ok so I've decided an f150 will be my next truck. Will be looking for a black fx4. I've gotten started on my system planning already. These are my ideas so far. I'm not sure how much room there is behind the rear seat for amps, I hope someone can help me out with that.

Head Unit: Eclipse or Pioneer double DIN nav units. Havn't compared the positives and negatives of both yet.

Front components: CDT HD-642 3way set (tweeters and 4" in q-logic kicks, 6.5 in door)
Front components compliment: CDT upstage kit (If I feel raising the sound stage is needed)

rear speakers: stock

sub box: custom dual 10" downfiring
subs: 2x CDT EF100 subs

front amp: ARC Audio 2500-XXK
rear amp: head unit
sub amp: ARC Audio 2500-XXK

Will those amps fit behind the rear seats?

I havn't played with 3-way systems yet so I figured the f150 is a very easy test bed for it paired with the q-logic kick panels.

Sorry I've just done this 3 times before and I like to plan ahead before I build/buy. I'm asking what will and wont fit, whats wrong with that? I may not have the truck yet but a thread like this might also be insightful to people that do and are curious about what to do with their audio setups. Would you prefer that I take out the part about me not having the truck yet and no one knows the better?

3 way will work fine. Not sure about lower trim level trucks, but my Lariat came with stock locations for a tweeter. I had to cut the panel a bit and add a mount plate to fir my 6.5 seperates in, but it was very easy.

As for your other plans... if you really want a 2x din nav unit, I suggest looking at the ALpine IVA-W200. You can add the external processor (something 700 model) for amazing sound processing control.

Are you planning on a supercab, or supercrew? If Scab, for SURE ditch the rear speakers entirely. If you are getting a crew get some coaxial CDTs or something cheaper and just get the Arc Audio xxk4150. That's the amp I am pairing with my Arc Audio xxk1500 in my focus...great combo.

Running stock speakers off a deck combined with real speakers and real power just NEVER makes any sense. Ever.

You are better off with nothing in the back than stock speakers, literally. Your fronts will be loud enough that no one would even know you didn't have rears...trust me. I used to run 3 JL 12w6v2s on a 1000/1 and a JL 300/4 on momo seperates in the front of my scab Ranger and no one believed me when I said I only had 1 pair of speakers. Even with 3 12s in an AWESOME enclosure cranking away the mids and highs remained crystal clear and plenty loud.

As for the sub box, be prepaired for NO usable air space behind the drivers...so they wont perform like they should.

As for the amps, yes they will easily fit behind the bench. I have a JL 500/1 and a JL 450/4 behind mine with plenty of room to spare.

I have an extra cab tundra right now setup similar. The rears are stock of the HU but almost faded completely out. I leave them simply for the slightest bit of fill, almost just for some noise while the front provide the real sound. I have a PG Xenon 150 x4 powering my CDT EF 62 comps in the front and bridged to a pair of EF-8s under my rear seat. The stock rear don't have an effect. Might go with some CL62 coaxals though, they are super cheap and can be put in without a problem.

I considered the sub issues and thats why I am looking at the ones I am. only 4 3/4" mounting depth and the work well with very small airspace. Either that or probably just drop in a JL Stealth box and a slash 250/1

Glad to hear about the room behind the seat, My biggest problem has always been amp placement in vehicles.

With some nice Arc Audio amps and a 3 way front stage you won't need rear fill. And when you crank the system up those stockers are only going to add mudd to your beautiful front sound stage.

Trust me, ditch them entirely...or get real speakers with real power and tune them down if you REALLY want some rear fill.

I have the JL stealthbox and a 500/1 and it's great for a single 10.

If you go over to fordtruckworld.com I saw a stealthbox for sale in fontana CA for $250. they are $579 new.

ok cool thanks for the heads up.

Do you have the standard w3v2 in the sleath box or did you put something else in it?

Eclipse all the way if your concerned with sound quality!!!

Front components: CDT HD-642 3way set (tweeters and 4" in q-logic kicks, 6.5 in door)
Front components compliment: CDT upstage kit (If I feel raising the sound stage is needed)

Going with 3 ways in those locations and an upstage kit will require a time alignment processor and at least 4 channels of amp power to dial in correctly. My recomendation is a high quality pair of 2ways in the doors. Spending some time building angle mounts can look trick and work well in that location. For the ultimate staging you may still want a time align processor.

rear speakers: stock

good idea for when you have people in the back seat you can fade the rears in for a little sound for them, and for the rest of the time fade them OFF for real listening. Why spend money to entertain them.

sub box: custom dual 10" downfiring
subs: 2x CDT EF100 subs

You may want to consider 1 good 10" and more power due to the lack of room to get a box big enough for 2 and room enough for amps as well.

front amp: ARC Audio 2500-XXK
rear amp: head unit
sub amp: ARC Audio 2500-XXK

lots of options, and the simpler you make the above speaker choices the easier it will be to fit more powerful amps since you would have less channels to power. You may even consider a monster 4 channel (2chan for fronts 2chan bridged for sub)

Will those amps fit behind the rear seats?

I havn't played with 3-way systems yet so I figured the f150 is a very easy test bed for it paired with the q-logic kick panels.

May be more money and less performance than you are looking for.
