I am wanting to install a CB in my 2005 FX4. Just curious if any of you have them, where you mounted it in the truck. ?

The only problem with mounting them in the tray is that you cover the speaker up which makes it hard to hear at times. You can get radios with front firing speakers which are better suited for "in hole" mounting

I've been thinking about getting a Cobra 75WX ST

It's all in the mic. I'm thinking about trying to install it in the overhead sunglass holder. Just have to figure out how to get power and the antenna wire to it

I really like that. May have to do like my dad did a long time ago get one like that and he mounted it to the A-Pillar and ran all the wires from under that dash..........except for the stupid Ohh ---- handle.

My original plan was to mount it under the seat and run an External speaker like I did in my 97 but that ain't gonna work either I as well would like to hear some more ideas.

Question

How did you get the coax out to the antenna? I'm going to run a few antennas and I don't want to use mag mounts, so I'm going to mount them on the racks on the cap.

That is a ham radio Quackaddict...Specificaly an Icom 706 series. They can be remote mounted like that. The main radio is probably under his seat and the faceplate is on the dash. They can be modified to get regular CB channels though as the on in the pic is on channel 19. Good radios but the down side is that they run about $900.

What else does it do? I know it isn't a $900 CB radio is it? He has that radio, factory, and another one below it. I am assuming the bottom on is Satellite Radio?

almost forgot he has an IPOD too. Just like me likes him some music.

lol....

In the Ash tray is my Sirrius replay sattelite tuner wired up to a PIE Connector that is spilt to an AUX IN i drilled for the IPOD.

As for the comm gear it is an Icom 706mkIIg

It is a milspec HF/UHF/VHF transciever that with one small modification (remove 1 diode) it will x-mit/recieve on everything from .03mhz-500mhz.

The faceplate does indeed detatch (to hide from thieves) and the rest of it is mounted under the passenger seat.

What makes this radio convienent for road trips, off road comm, etc. is that it is a CB/FRS/GMRS/MURS radio all wrapped up in one package. Also because it transmits on such a broad range of frequencies it could come in handy in an emergency situation.

That said if you get one of these you gotta be responsible with it cause it can transmit where you don't belong.

I picked this up on e-bay for $600....

Behind the radio that black box is my external speaker. My next mod it to flush mount it in the tray up there.

Fiberglass cap? You need to have a good ground or you can fry your radio if the racks are metal but only touch fiberglass it will not be sufficient.

My sattelite and my UHF antenna is mounted on the roof through the third brakelight. Note I did have to use RTV to make a seal to prevent leaking.

The Antenex UHF Antenna is tuned for GMRS (462-467mhz) and sits on a rubber matted magnet mount with an "NMO" screw on for the antenna itself. Its compact design makes it a bit inconspicuous and convienent. I will be changing the UHF antenna out for a dual band antenna to cover the MURS (155mhz) range also. But with the NMO connection I can change between the two quite easilly.

The 27 mhz (cb) antenna is a wilson flex antenna mounted to my toolbox and both are grounded with 4 guage wire to the truck bed behind the cab. (SWR is 1:1).

I want to wire it through those plasic caps behind the rear seats but I have been unsuccsessful at getting the back seat backs out.... So I wired it through the conduit in the back door. If you but the cable at the bottom where the notch is you can get the rubber plug all the way back in. You can not see the cable from the side until it comes up behind the cab.

I take it you mean it can transmit on freq. that you shouldn't be on right...not acctual places?

Also I noticed around here alot of people have plates on their cars that are for HAM operators, do you have to have that in order to use a HAM in the car?

Is there any alternative to the large antenas? Could you run like a 6' long one under the bedrail and have it work or does it need to be pointed up?
