Ford TripTunes
The 2006 F-150 accessories catalog shows an item called TripTunes for hooking up your IPod to the head unit. Went to my local Ford dealer today. He knew othing, called Ford. Ford's response was "That's only for Focus Ranger and Mustang, not for F1-150 - and we don't have any". !!!
Anyone have further intel on this? It makes no sense to me that it is model specific in that it should plug into an AUX input or the antenna line directly, so what diff. does the model make?
Thanks for any help or clarification on this. I really want to get my IPod hooked up in my '06 150.

I bought one last week, just haven't installed it yet. It will fit an F150, Ford specifies '06+ only, but I figure there can't be that many differences between '04 and '06 F150s, so I'll give it a shot in my '04. I figure I ain't got much to lose and if it doesn't work for me, I'll put it in the classifieds here or something. The part number you're looking for is 6R3Z-19A464-AA. It lists at about $70. It is FM modulated, and I don't think it'll charge the iPod. There is some splicing and drilling (one hole through the side of the glovebox for the wiring to pass through) to do to install it. Hopefully I'll get around to installing mine sometime next week with a review and lots of pics.

I have a triptunes in my 06 s-crew.. It is FM modulated and you have the choice of two different FM stations to tune to, 87.9 or 88.1. I also have a Monster iTrip and I have to say the TripTunes has MUCH better sound quality.
The package comes with an FM modulator unit (about 4" x 2" x 1") wired to a switch with the AUX input 3.5mm jack with double sided tape to stick it wherever you want, wiring including the 3.5mm stereo cable, and zip ties. The wire length allows you to either place the switch in the glove box or if you have a flow-through console, in the console.
To install it, you take your radio out, unplug the antenna wire from the back of the radio, plug the antenna wire from the trip tunes into the radio, then the actual antenna into the triptunes antenna plug. Basiaclly just a harness for an antenna plug. You have to splice into the 12v wire and the ground wire to supply power, and thats it. tune your radio to one of the stations, turn on the supplied switch with AUX 3.5mm output connected to your ipod and go.
It took me about 15 minutes to intall it. I'm actually getting a PIE interface for my radio, so if anyone is interested in buying the trip tunes i have, email me at jalford@eatel.net. I haven't even used the double sided tape on the switch, so the system is like new..

If Ford doesn't have one, these guys do and it would not require FM tuning. http://www.pie.net/
For my truck I would just hit the AUX button. I am thinking of ordering one because the volume over my XM's FM broadcast is really bad through the stereo and loses all the depth.
You can buy them for less by searching for the part number once you get it off PIE's site.

Problems installing TripTunes in an 06 F150 Supercrew with 6CD "Audiophile" SAT radio.
Antenna socket on radio does not seem compatable with either TripTunes antenna connector. Nor does the antenna itself.
Any ideas?
