Ok, let's clear up a little confusion first...The giant speakers behind or under the rear seats are subwoofers with a frequency response that is basically non-directional, so having them back there does not really effect the stereo soundstage. Secondly, you would be ruining the stereo effect because most stereo require 2 channels, a left and a right. Not a center. If you want to use a center channel properly, you will need to get a 5.1 processor to send the proper signal to the center channel and also 5.1 decoded music or sound. This can get a little expensive but with shopping it can be done. You would also need some way of amping all the channels so that you would get good seperation of the channels.

I have thought about the center dash panel as a spot to mount a center channel when I finally get around to doing 5.1 in my truck. So I am interested in how you have yours mounted though.

Sooooo...if you like the look you don't really need to cut in a speaker that will wreck your sound stage anyway. Just bolt the grill down and the corners of your grill should turn up just the same ;-) And just so you know, the experts always say the fewer speakers to fill the cabin the better. Most of the high end systems put in today do not even include rear channels for fill. Do you want to look cool or sound cool? Because in the end. the people that think your middle speaker is cool will be the ones that have no clue about Audio. And the ones that do will talk about what a dork you are for doing it behind your back. And I'm not calling you a dork by the way...just trying to save your reputation at the bench race. Don't do it!

Whatever these "audio purists" are telling you... forget it. I'd love to see the pics.

I sold car audio for a while to the tune of $2,000 - $17,000 systems... I saw people do this to "keep up" with the amount of subs they added... and to some, the louder the better... at 100 yards away you could clearly hear the vocals.

I saw a guy put like four sets of 6.5 components in the cab of his semi... and only 2 twelves for lows... Dude loved him some screamin' guitar. He was about deaf, and you can imagine why, but hey... if you want 3000 watts of mids and highs, that's your choice!

I bet it will sound good. Be sure and update us.

Just saying "to each his own" fellas...

To some folks, more = better... and there was an attitude in this thread that some were telling our thread starter that he'd be "a dork" (and I quote) if he did this mod...

The truth is, it's up to him.

No big... didn't think anyone would care either way really. And I'd like to see the pics... I'd rather see it happen than discourage an original piece of work!

Really, no big deal. Some folks just like to jump on "different" and label it as "wrong."

I'll watch from here out...

I'll post a pic, maybe I'll start a trend.
By taking into account the questions, comments, and components used, I don't think you have a grasp on what makes a center channel work or quite what the whole concept of it is. So I would strongly suggest rethinking your entire idea. As for the people that are encouraging you, I think they just want to have a laugh at the outcome.

C'mon

Frostby, your the one who said it. I guess I should have gotten pissed and left some bash back, immature reply but I chose to see your humor instead. Anyway, I appreciate everyone's serious advise and it is under consideration.

Thanks guys
Scott (lets end this stupid thread here)
