Relay & misc. wiring questions...

First, does anyone know a source for and automotive style relay (with spades on the bottom) that will accept 4v dc as the coil trigger? I'm looking to setup a remote turn-on circuit for a couple amps, but the coil input voltage is 4v.

Next, I have a question on capacitor installs. I'm guessing that the cap should be installed as close to the amps as possible. Is this correct? Is it a safe practice to ground the cap in the same location as the amps?

Finally, because of the amp location (behind the rear seat in a crew), I need to locate the + side distribution block in a spot where I can access the fuses. I planned on running 4ga to the block, then independant 8ga feeds to the amps. Any issue with the dist. block being placed 3-4 feet downstream of the amps?

You've pretty much answered your own audio questions, -Yes it's okay with the cap ground, and yes, it's okay to have a few feet off your Dblock, assuming your not running like 6 million amps through it(CMA)!!!

I don't follow your relay question. Are you looking for a 4 volt relay? Or are you looking for a standard relay to throw 4 volts?! I am also curious where are the 4 volts coming from?

Thanks for the reassurance. Sometimes you already think you know the answer, but it doesn't hurt to double check!

I'm after a relay that can be triggered by 4v (Coil input). The 4 volt is coming from the Audiophile sub-on lead. What I planned was to run a lead from the sub plug on the head unit back to the amps, and use the 4v to trigger a relay supplying 12v to the remote turn on terminal of the amps. Currently, I'm grabbing 12v from the accessory power wire in the main head unit connector. I'd rather have the amps turn on and off with the radio, not accessory power.

Crazy part is, I know the part number of the relay I need (4FV-45D11). Just can't find the d@mn thing in stock anywhere. All anybody stocks is relays that accept 12 or 24 volt coil input.

I see, unfortunately, I have no idea where you can find such a relay, especially one that has common spade style terminals in 4V

Good luck

No problem. I'm sure I'll find it eventually.

why not use a 5V relay? 4V should be plenty to turn it on. Not sure why you absolutely need the spade connector, but if you can live without them, there's one from radioshack. I probably can't post the link without being flamed or censored, but do a search on 2062478 at their site

Contacts are good for 1/2A@ 60VDC which is plenty for a remote turn-on.

If you have a surplus electronics shop in your area, I'm sure you can find similar relays for dirt cheap...
