This doesn't seem to be a bad option for a less expensive hd based setup. Looking for other input maybe someone that has one or seen one in action.
20 gb isnt bad but it does look like you still need an FM unit.

I have a Phatbox in my new VW - it's the same kind of setup. I love it - 70 or so cds on it already and a ton of room left. Unfortunately, the VW Phatbox (which is a dime a dozen) is not compatible with Ford head units. The Ford-compatible units are around $800!

I have just put a phatbox in my VW too. I was thinking the same thing $250 for a VW phatbox, hack it to work with the Ford. One can certainly put the Ford software on the dms and flash the VW box, no? What are the issues... I know we would have to make a new cable, or are the other wiring issues that cannot be accommodated? How far have you looked in to this? I put in a post at www.phathack.com - maybe somebody there knows what can be done.
