Need advice on system install

Quick questions for those who dont want to read to much.
99 f-150 ex-cab, single cd player in dash. two plugs in the back.
~How do i know if I have "premium sound"? (for details skip down to 3 part)
~What is the best way to install my new 4-channel amplifier?

Here is the long version
I recently got tired of the factory system so I got a set of Polk/MOMO 5x7 speakers with outboard X-overs. Super nice looking speakers for the $100. They do however require lots of power-around 75 RMS. so I go a Power Acoustik 4channel 600Wmax/70x4 RMS for really really cheep.$49 after shipping. Im planning on getting another pair of speakers once I listened to the 5x7 and get the second set depending on what I need-(if i want more high 5.25, more bass 6x9 or a sub, more of the same 5x7).

I was going to keep the factory head unit and use the speaker/high level amp inputs but im having so many problems with the easy stuff that i'll probably change my mind. I have available a nice pretty new alpine h/u w/3preamp outputs(yay!). but I would need a dash kit and probably a wiring harness(i have no idea which wiring harness to get) and i kinda like the factory h/u because of the volume **** and the big buttons and because im used to it.

I need to know if my factory sys is the premium package. when i pull my factory H/U out there are two different harnesses plugged into it. does this indicate a premium system? How do I bypass the factory amp if I'm using the alpine instead of stock H/U?

To sum it up I need to install an alpine h/u and a 4channel amp into a 99f150 ex-cab with or without premium sound.without the factory amp if i have one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Well, I dont know how to tell if you have the premium sound or not, but if you have 2 harnesses, I would say the second is for either a cd changer, or an amp.

Heres what ya do. The only wires you need to hook up to the Alpines harness are ground, battery, switched power, and REM. 4 wires is all,and only 3 of them(not the REM) would splice into the other harness you buy to plug into the factory one, so if you want to get a harness, go for it, but personally for 3 wires, I would just cut those 3 wires from the factory harness and splice it into the Alpines harness, then tape off all the other wires on the Alpine harness, except the REM wire.

Then, run your RCA's and REM to the amplifier. You can run just one pair of RCA's and split it off with a pair of Y splitters at the amp, UNLESS you want front to rear fade, then you will need to run 2 pairs or RCA's. On from the front preouts on the HU to the front input on the amp, and one pair from the rear preouts on the HU to the rear inputs on the amp.

If you want to buy the harness, the Scosche one's part number you will need is FD16, for 98 and up for vehicles.

If you want to use the factory radio, just post back here again and say so, and Ill tell you how to hook everything up using the factory one.

I did my new system last October and my factory CD player had two plugs, one for the speakers and the other to my factory CD changer. If you don't have a changer, then the 2nd plug either goes to a factory amp, or it just goes from the head unit across the dash and down to behind the passenger side kick panel where it then relays via a 8 foot extention harness to the rear of the truck where the factory CD changer goes. If you put the Alpine in, then just unplug it and leave it in the dash. A harness is about $10 bucks and a dash kit is about $18. Good luck.
