radio reception problem
radio reception problem
I have a 2003 supercrew with the 6 disc stereo and the reception is poor at best. The cd portion is fine. It's mainly FM not AM. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do?
I wont be much help to you, but mine isn't the best either, so at least you know you're not the only one. Seems mine has static during certain parts of a song, (cymbals, drums, etc.)and doesn't go away by adjusting the volume. I know the speakers aren't blown. Wifes 8 yr old minivan plays the same station clearer at the same time.
I hope to have a look soon behind the head unit to see if the antenna connector is just loose. If that fixes it, I'll let you know.
Hope someone else has a fix for this.

I puchased an antenna booster to see if it would help. It didn't. The booster can only boost what the antenna picks up so I'm thinkin maybe it is an antenna problem. I'm going to see if I can find a replacement and I'll let ya'll know if it helps.
For 2 bucks, you can purchase a Ford radio remover tool from AutoZone or Pep Boys. Check to see if the antenna is connected. Hey, you never know!
Do you live in an area with a broad aray of radio signals? Consider this..... you can stick a coat hanger in a tv ( bunny ear) and pick up a channel. You can stick a piece of speaker wire into a radio antenna and get a signal.
So, it could be the antenna or the unit itself. I have a Kenwood Excelon 6025 head in my truck. My F150 came with the tape/6disc changer.
Since my Kenwood is an MP3 player, I burn 8-10 albums on 1 disc, making up for the changer. It also is Sirius Satellite ready, which I hooked up....and havent listened to FM since.
eBay has some really NICE headunits for next to nothing. Just throwing out alternatives.
