2005 6disc mp3 player problems
I have a 2005 F150 with the indash 6 disc changer w/MP3 player. I have not been able to get an mp3 filled disk to play yet. I have tried 2 different burners, several different CDs, and have finalized the discs with no luck. The display reads "Reading Disc" for quite a while, then reads "Bad Disc" and ejects the disc. I have done searches on several forums and haven't seen any real answers to this problem. Does anyone have any ideas, or do I need to take it back to the dealer and have them fix it? Thanks.
Go back to the dealer and try your disks in other trucks that has the same player, that will tell you if have a bad player in yours or its the disks you use to make them.My 2003 didn't say anything about playing MP3's,but they play good in my system.
before you go to the dealer...
1) check to see if the mp3-burned disk plays on another mp3 player
2) see if your cd player in your truck plays regular cds (non-mp3)
if your answer is "yes" to the first question and "no" to the second,
try this before going to the dealer:
pull the radio fuse and allow the radio to reset.
I learned this from my own experiences, and encountered the same problems you did.
For more info, try doing a search in this forum or the hu forum for "cd problem*"
Good luck!

shtrdave,
are you sure that you are playing an MP3 disc?
Many cd burning applications will convert them the cd audio files if that is what you select.
To find out - place one of those cd's into your computer - and then open the disc - and view the file names - if the extension is not showing as MP3 - then they are not - but if they are - there is a lot of people that want to know how you are doing this and what radio you have.

kirkb,
I have the same radio he is referring to (in dash 6-disc, MP3 player). This one does play MP3, but it is horrible scrolling through trying to find what you are looking for. It doesn't display the file name until it is already playing, so looking for a specific track is nearly impossible if you don't know where to look for it.
It displays as F1 T1 (F=folder, T=track) until it starts playing.
It also plays .wma files, so it shouldn't matter what format the disc is burned in.......but be careful of how many songs are in a folder ( I think the manual says that a folder cannot have more than X # of songs in it. Try breaking the organization of your songs into smaller folders, such as Artist-Album-Track instead of just tracks.
My truck is a "Texas Edition", and I know it doesn't have the amp or sub, nut not sure if it has component speakers in the doors or not.
Hope this helps!!!!!!!

The CD player will play homemade CDs with .wav files on them, I have been using several of those with no problems. I am confident that I have burned the mp3 files correctly using a data burning program, not one of the music programs. I do not have the Audiophile system, but the 6 CD changer that is supposed to play mp3s just like heybeermantx.
I have tried mp3 discs with everything in folders and some with just a bunch of files in the main directory. Neither has worked. I will try burning another one with fewer files in it and see what happens. I haven't tried the discs in another mp3 player, but they do work in my computer. I will give it a try in my CD/MP3 player tonight. I will also try pulling the fuse to see if that helps.
Thanks for all of the input.

one other thing to check:
Are you burning on CD-RW discs?
If you are, that is most likely the problem.
I know of no factory mp3 players that will play CD-RW, they just play CD-R

Does the Ford Audiophile MP3 work?
I just order a new F150 with the Audiophile MP3 player and this thread is making me a bit concerned about my purchase. Is this just an isolated problem or is everyone having trouble playing MP3s in the Ford head units?
HeyBeerMan: You mentioned it is a pain to find the music you want to listen to but do song titles eventually come up on the display? Does it display the ID3 tag info or do you need special coding in your MP3 files?
Thanks,
Tom
