This may be a dumb question that can not be done, but what happens if you get a headphone jack/rca male cord, plug it into the ipod, unplug your HU from aftermarket amp and plug the ipod into the low level rca imputs and play it.

in this example as in my truck, my amp is always on when the truck is on. so, if the radio is off or unplugged, my amp is still on. would the headphone jack be an unamplified (low level) signal?
