Alpine and Ipod

I've been away for a while but got a question. What are my options with a Alpine with ai-net to hook up an ipod? I seen the KCA-420I and now need to find out if my CDA 7998 is 2004, looks nice. If my deck is 2003 what are my options?

Sorry if this is redundant.

Cool

Alpine says the deck needs to have the ability to display 2 lines of text...

My friend has the interface connected to a 9813 and it works perfectly, as far as the electronics go.

Both of us feel, however, that the iPod interface functionality SUCKS as far as scrolling for a particular artist, album or track goes.

If you have lots of music on one, be prepared to get frustrated by the "Search" feature of the Alpine invention.

Oh yeah, you can't use the remote to search through the playlists in "Quick" mode - you have to use the "Rotary Encoder" (Volume ****).

I am seriously considering removing the interface and using the controls on the iPod to select the music and then just piping it into the HU via an AUX cable...

BTW - The interface will fit behind the glovebox door in the little cubby on the right hand side. Out of sight and puts the iPod right in your glove box.

Food for thought...

Personally I don't have a problem with the search functionality through the Alpine HU.

Of course it is a significant step backwards from the iPod itself...how can it not be with only being able to display one line of text, versus three on the iPod, and only a limited number of characters on that one line. However, I am more than happy to make this tradeoff and get the improved sound quality of, basically, a hard wired connection to the HU. This is the absolute best sound quality you are ever going to get from an iPod in a car.

The best way to search, I have found, is first by Artist, then Album, then Song. Searching by Song becomes more and more difficult the larger "sample size" you are drawing from. Trying to search for a song within a playlist, for example, if a waste of time. The deeper down you go in your files before trying to find a specific song the better.

Obviously, it also helps to know the contents of your iPod pretty darn well and how your own music is organized which is not a problem for me since 90% of my iPod time is spent away from my truck and in my office, in airports, or on airplanes.

I can't speak to the remote issue...I haven't even used it.

Just another user's opinion...

And there are already other threads about how easy this was to install so I won't rehash that info here.
