Sirius Antenna Through Third Brake Light

I've seen a few of you say you've ran the antenna wire through the third brake light on an identical truck to mine. I've taken the brake light out, and I see how you're saying to do it, but I don't understand how to do it without taking the interior panels and the headliner out.

If anyone would please walk me through running the wire throught the light and into the cab, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

I responded to your email, you'll have to forgive me for the late response as I hardly ever check my mail.

but I made some pictures to hopefully give you a better idea and help anyone else that may be searching for this.

After you take the brake light off , what I did was just pick one of the larger holes to feed the wire through. the holes are almost right above the gap between the headliner and the very back of the truck. I was able to get my fingers up in there and grab the wire without removing the headliner. From there I just ran the wire on the edge of the headliner across the back of the truck and down the side behing the plastic pannel.

as you can see there is some flex in the headliner and if you feed enough of the wire through you should be able to grab it.

the red arrows are where I ran the wire, you may have to mess with it a bit to get it where the wire dosent fall out after bumping around on the road some.

also, after a while I had some problems with leaking where the wire had worn a rut through the lights gasket. So what I did was just run a thick bead of silicone on top of the black foam gasket and I have been leak free ever since then, and we have had a ton of rain down here.

Hope that helped

If the Sirius antenna is anything like the XM, why don't you run it under the wiper cowel.

Anything in the way of the antenna will reduce signal strength, so on the roof is always best.

With it on the roof, I already get signal loss under over passes.

I get the same signal strength under the cowel as I did when it was on the roof. There is no difference...put it under the cowl...go stealth, looks better; and that way you dont have to advertise that you have xm.

I also have it under the cowel. I live in the "Gray" zone (The I'm really not suppose to have it, cause I'm in Canada). We have no terrestrial repeaters. But I normally get full strength. (unless I'm in downtown Toronto, with a building immediately south of me).

Hey big, did you ever consider running the antenna wire in the headliner from the third brake light all the way to the front?

I was looking at this last night. I'm not sure if I can get it through because I have the moonroof. I would have to get some fish tape and get a good angle to bypass the moonroof.

I'll let you know if this works.

That is the way I ran it. All the way under the head liner to the front and under the plastic cover on the front pass. side post. Then ran it under the dash to the radio location. Took me all of 5 minutes. I don't have a moon roof, but I don't see how that would make a diff.

Thanks Dupuis, I'll give that a try.

I just used my fingers and a dull flat head screw driver to push the wire up under the liner and behind the plastic were needed. It's been under there for about 6 months and has never come out. Good luck.

Dupuis, where did you mount your tuner? I have a place in mind behind the radio, there is a metal bracket of some sort, but I haven't quite figured out how I am going to mount it.

I tie wraped it to that metal bracket.

Yeah, that's what I was going to do. I thought it would look jerry-rigged, but who's going to see it? As long as it stays put.

So much for going across the headliner. I couldn't get around the moonroof, so I took the long road. Good thing I had plenty of wire.
