Sound cuts out when hitting a bump
Sound cuts out when hitting a bump
I did a search on bumps and sound cutting out and didn't find anything that describes my problem.
I had the premium sound cd player and decided that I wanted an upgrade. Put in a Blaupunkt unit from Crutchfield and I'm very happy with the system. Before and after the install however, I'm getting a break in the music or sound when I go over a bump. It doesn't happen all of the time but seems to be related to the "severity" of the bump or imperfection in the road.
I'm planning to upgrade the speakers as well in the next month or so. I can only hear the cutout of the sound from the right rear speaker. In fact when the premium sound deck was in I moved the fader and balance controls around and the problem was only in the right rear speaker.
If the speaker is indeed bad, what should I check for on it to see a flaw. Should I switch a couple of speakers and see if the problem stays with the location or the speaker?

Good chance it's something minor! I've seen speakers begin cutting out and progressively get worse. Usually it is the fine wires between the terminals and the voice coil on the speaker, it could also be your wiring but not as likely - try wiggling your boot in the door(if there is a door) see if it does anything. If wiring is poor, and grounding out, it will typically cut the whole system not just one speaker!
ieee_raider,
The cut out is like someone is shutting off the speaker for less than 1 second. It happens very fast.
frostby,
Ok, I've had the speaker completely out and back in. It sounds like switching that speaker with another one might help.
I'd like to know what the problem is before I put the new speakers in. If they are going to fix the problem, that's great but I'm hoping that it's just the speaker.
I can try the swap tonight.

The end of the story
Good news on the cutting out of the sound in the passenger rear door. It appears to be that the door was loose. You couldn't shake it or bang on it to consistently reproduce the rattle and I could never make the sound cut out by hand.
But last night I moved the bottom latch on the body of the truck toward the inside of the cab. I took the bumpy way to work and not cutouts.
I wanted to post so that anyone else might check that as well.
