Test Tones
OK, I am looking to make a test tone CD with all notes between 20hz and 1000hz in 5hz increments. I use WinISD to generate the tones and I record them with Windows' Sound Recorder. I save the file as a 320kb mp3 (From Sound Recorder). I burn the MP3's onto my blank CD with Nero.
OK here is the question.... How do I ensure that all of the tones are recorded at the same level? I set the level of the tones in WinISD, but I am not really "for certain" that they were all recorded at the same level.
Does anyone have any experience with doing this? Any input?
Is the MP3 conversion doing me harm (in respect to messing up the recording levels)? I would record these tones in wav, but I would not be able to fit all the tones on one disk then.
I am attempting to get better SQ with my system, and I think a good head start is to use this disk and an SPL meter to "check my ears."
Any other input/techniques on achieving good SQ is appreciated also.

You might want to just get some test tones on disk that are recorded in a better environment. You can get them from any of the music swap/for sale sites. Bass Mekanik has them on lots of there disks.
I have not tried what your talking about but know exactly what your asking. I'd be a little scared trying something like that in mine. Those tones are powerfull stuff. I've only blown one fuse and it was with 1,000 mhz tones.

I think I have found more of what I am looking for....
After I create (or buy per your suggestion) I am looking at this program to install on my laptop to do the tuning with. The only thing is that nowhere I can see so far does it give the price of this software. Can anyone point me to other PC based RTA's ? General experiences with software based stuff like this?

It all depends on how into this you want to get. You can get anything from Term Lab to a free shareware to just take a look. The term lab will allow you to tweek into comp status. The other just give you an idea of sharp peaks and such. I found a few a while back that were pretty nice but expired in 30 days. Search the web for RTA software and see what you come up with.
