newbie question...

hello there,
just bought me this truck and love the way it handle and feels. the truck were born stock and i just wanna do some upgrade to it.
how do i take the stock system out from the truck, the stereo system. is there any trick?
i'm going to put in an old pioneer system(2000 model) into the truck. what size speaker does the 97 f150 xlt takes? where's the best place to buy them and i'm in a low..low..budget. i'm not into the "boom...boom" loud type so the cheapest the speaker the better but quality count(i dont want paper corn speaker)

thanks

simon

The factory deck comes out with a pair or DIN removal tools. You can get them at Walmart or some audio shops. It is a simple U shaped tool (there are 2 of them) that you stick in the holes on each side of the deck and push out. Then the deck will slide out.

The speakers are 5x7/6x8.

What do you call 'low low budget'? You can get some nice Infinity's for like 100 or so bucks. Infinity is a good brand too. One of my favorites.

There are millions of speakers to choose from.
Check out Ikesound.com for cheap priced stuff.
Or Crutchfield.com

How much are you wanting to spend? Do you just want speakers and an amp, or do you want subs also?

A hint for removing Ford head units -- you don't need the special removal tool. The head unit is held in place by 4 latches (along the path of the four holes on the head unit). If you cut lengths of small diameter hard material (like a coat hanger) and push them about 2-3" down the hole you will release the latches. Now all you have to do is slide the unit out by either grabbing the sides or push on the back of it.

but for $1.50, the tool makes it a snap.
Just push in, press out, and pull!

Hey 97,

I had a pair of Cerwin Vega's running as my fronts with the factory head unit for a while, and they were perfect for it. Low end was pretty decent for a 50 watt RMS speaker. I think the model number I had was SS-2683. It was the 'Stealth' line. (I know Alpine makes a 40 x 4 amp too.) I recommend those. You can probably find them for under $50 a pair online. The new ones have the same specs, so it should be fine.

Check this link out: just make sure you buy from a power seller if possible.

Hey Guys/Gals,
Thanks for all the input and help. I finally took the stock head unit out and putting in my old pioneer on it. I'm planning to stay on the stock speaker unit until it blown away since it sound good to my ear, i'm not a loud music listerner.

Once again thanks for all the help and inputs
