Wiring Help Needed

Hi,

I have a 2 channel amp that is 2 ohm stable. I have 4 2-way speakers that are 4 ohms. 2 front 2 rear.

What I want to do is wire the 2 left side (Front/Rear) in parallel to 1 of the channels on my amp and do the same with the right side (front/rear) to the other channel. This will create 2 ohms.

I want to do this because the amp is 35 watts @ 4 ohms X 2 and 70 watts @ 2 ohms X2.

Is it safe to wire it like this? I would like the addtional wattage and I am not concerned about losing the fader control (I never use it anyways)

Any advice would be much appreciated.

That will do fine as long as you don't mind losing fade control (which you've already said that was okay). Most decent amps will run fine down to 1 ohm. The stability that it states is what it has been tested for to give consistent results that the manufacturer can guarantee. As you bridge your amp down to lower ohms the only drawbacks are higher noise, which is usually by a factor of 10 (if you have a total harmonic distortion rating of .05% @ 4ohms then it will be .5% @ 2ohms), and increased heat production. Just be sure to mount it in a well ventilated area to keep it cool and enjoy your tunes.
