Question Question

Does ANYBODY know if it is possible to connect a stock 6 disc changer to a Kenwood CD headunit? A wire, harness, or some type of interface? I have a 2001 F150 XLT and Kenwood KDC-459.
The stereo has a CD changer in-port, but natrually Ford's stock CD changer's wiriring wont fit it.
Please let me know.
Thanks

Answer

In a word maybe. In more detail, there are companies that do in fact make adapters but it is to add a changer to a factory deck. If I remember correctly, Sony was the aftermarket changer that works with the Ford HU's if you use the adapter. I also believe (although I never tried it) that the adapters will work in either direction so you would possibly have to modify the plugs on the adapter. I will look to see if I can find an adapter for Ford to Kenwood. There are a few companies out there that make adapters for more than just one companies product. I will let you know in a minute what I find.

Ok, I have confirmed that there are protocol converters that will interface Kenwood changers to factory HU. I am pretty sure that these will work in either direction but it would be best for you to check with PIE since they make the converters. I am not sure the cost on this so it may be more practical just to find a used Kenwood changer. Hopefully that helps you out.

Hey thanks. Ive been researching several sites similar to PIE and ive found the same thing..... Aftermarket changers to stock headunits, but not vice-versa.
Ive emailed them with my inquiry but strangley, no replies.
Ive got a buddy whom purchased a Mustang used, from a previous owner. He has a stock changer connected to an Alpine headunit, so Im certain it can be done, unfortunatley he wont let me disassemble his dash so I can see what brand converter was used.
Cant blame him but oh well, Ill keep looking
