Security Code for a Kenwood CD unit

Hello,
I have a question for someone out there. Over a year ago I purchased a Kenwood KDC-MPV619 CD/MP3 in-dash unit from someone on Ebay. Well, over a year later, I'm finally installing it in my '98 F150 Lariat SuperCab. I get it connected and powered up, and the first thing that comes on the screen is a request for a security code. I have sent the seller an e-mail asking him to contact me, and hopefully he will, but in case he doesn't, does anybody know how to get around it? Or, is there a master code that the factory uses to get in? I can mail it off to Kenwood and have it de-coded ($ and time?) if all else fails. Thanks for your assistance. Later!

Post unlock key

Back when I was an installer, I think "KCAR" is the universal unlock key code. If it doesn't work, well, sorry!

frostby,
Thanks for the quick reply. On this particular Kenwood, it only accepts numerical digits, four of them. Any other thoughts? Thanks again. Eric

Two buttons

Hi , I am having the same problem
Now from what I found out that you have to hold two buttons on the streao so you can input text characters.
does anyone know what two buttons to hold so you can enter KCAR from the car remote??

thank you

I have the same unit in my 99 1-50 it is a very good unit, hasn't skiped once!! I read the owners manual, it doesn't say a bout a factor code. It says a 4 digit NUMBER of your choice, doesn't say you can use letters. I don't see anything else that could help you. Good luck!
