in dash changer
As long as it has the 2 holes on each side for removal tools it should fit as they are the same size for all F150's 97 to 03. You might want to double check the harnesses. I can't recall if the early models have the same harness as an 03.
If it does fit into the mounting hardware in your dash you'll more than likely have to do some cutting on the inside of the dash structure to make enough room to side it all the way in. I had to perform this 'surgery' on my '01 SuperCrew when I did the swap to the CD-6 radio. But let me tell ya, it's been well worth the work I had to do to get it in the truck.
Here's a couple pics of the two radios side-by-side (CD-6 is in the background) and what my inner dash looked like post-surgery.

There's also some additional pics in my gallery if your interested.
Good luck.

Will these 6 disc in dash
Ford OEM units work in my 1998 Ford F-150 SCab Lariat? Truck came with AM/FM cassettes and 6 disc cd changer. I know it will fit physically with some minor surgery. What about harnesses and such? Would I just need a later model harness/adapter cable? Any help appreciated. Thanks.........
Also, what is the difference between the 6 disc in dashers with the DSP and COMP buttons? Thanks.........

Yes it will fit with the above recomendations. You can buy the wire adapter for that year truck and one for that year HU to get the plugs you need. Check into Schoshe and metra.
DSP is Digital Signal Processor and COMP is CD compression. The DSP makes the sound come from all over the place and Compression is to help cancel road noise.
The 04 and up Hu's will not fit right in. They use a different mounting setup.
