Has anybody ever replaced the not-quite-double-DIN Ford HU with a pair of DIN components? Does anybody make a kit to do this? I would like to wedge my Kenwood KDC-MP8017 CD/MP3 and Sony XE-744 Graphic EQ in the dash.

Yes I have done it in a couple of fords 2000 expedition /02 f150 not really as easy as the kit(american international fmk 552) says, but it does work the dash trim does not need to be trimmed (just the piece the radio cage locks on to)you will need to trim the top and bottom of the black plastic piece. also you probably wont use the whole kit just the trim bezel to fill in the gap ....hope this helps

You were right on with your comments, Leapfrog. I had to get out the air cutoff wheel and do some trimming to the plastic cage top/bottom, but the components fit like a glove once I got everything back in place.

As I was only doing a test-fit, I took it back out and replaced it with the stock HU and it went back in with no problems. Just waiting on a couple more pieces, then it'll go back in to stay. Thanks again!

Yep, you can fit 2 din units in with the triming that is listed previously.
Here's a couple pics.
Still waiting for my trim piece but otherwise complete.

Oh, and this rounds out the package :-)

Sony XE-744 Graphic EQ/Spectrum Analyzer
Kenwood KDC-MP8017 CD/MP3 Player
Infinity 6800CS components in front doors
Infinity 6802CF coaxials in rear doors
Door speakers powered by Kenwood KAC-745 @ 40w x 4 RMS
Future 2 x 10" subs powered by Kenwood KAC-846 @ 150w x 2 RMS
4 gauge from battery split to dual 8 gauge
12 gauge speaker wire used in place of stock wiring
All connections soldered and heat shrink wrapped

Fits nice, sounds even better. Both amps installed under front seats even though only the one under the drivers seat is currently in use for the door speakers. The other sits patiently under the passengers seat awaiting the purchase of a pair of 10" subs/enclosure.
