sub enclosure idea-
sub enclosure idea-
Hey guys, I was wondering what you guys thought of this idea for a sub box.
I measured the distance from the floor to the seet and it was around 6 inches, so i was thinking of making a custom box where the sub lays at an angle. (red part in picture, ignore green). Do you guys think it would work, or might there not be enough dead air space etc.?

im hoping this idea would get rid of the problem of sticking a 10 inch sub under the seat w/o a seat lift.
Thank you for all comments/suggestions
if the idea is ok/works, there will be 2 10's under the rear seat on the pass. and drivers side

The angle will have no influence. You can design the box into whatever shape you like, volume is volume, and air is highly compressable. But - you have to have enough volume to match the speaker. Shoot for a Q=.7, you will find that you generally fall into the range of .7 to 1.2 cubic feet for a 10". Down fired designs will utilize the space available better under the seat. Try to mainatain about 1" clearance minimum at the speaker surface to the truck body. You will not like the sound quality if you go too small on the air volume of the box.
Around here the audio shops sell probox dual 10 down fire boxes for $149. You could use that one you designed but i dunno that you could get much mounting depth or airspace for a sub. If you used 8" subs you could probly do it pretty easily. Im not for sure on this but its just my thoughts.

If you are willing to raise the seat you can increase your options greatly. If not, your choices are somewhat limited, but you can still get 2 decent subs under there. There are some tremendous 8" subs. Might be a direction to consider. Really good 8s will play very low, although with all else being equal, 10s or 12s will be louder at a low frequency, say 20hz, for instance. But don't let anyone kid you, 8s will go low, they just won't cave your head in. And some people would never consider an 8, no matter how good, because it wouldn't be cool, if you get my drift. But give me a correctly installed quality 8 any day over a poorly installed 10 or 12. There is so much that is critical to sub selection and installation. The total package has to work together properly AND then be matched to an amp that is capable of getting the most from the set-up. Just my thoughts.
