Install kit with pocket on bottom
Install kit with pocket on bottom
I searched, and I saw someone say a while ago that Sosche(sp?) had one pictured, but actually quite making it.
Im about to get a Kenwood 969, and the face angles down and out. If the pocket of the kit is on top, it looks like the CD player will be semi-obstructing the air controls. I dont want this. Has anyone found a quality kit online, or in a store that has the pocket on the bottom?

If you ask for help, you should give a few pertinent details on your truck...
If nothing else, put them in your profile.
Anyway, try this for starters: Radio mounting kit

That looks like it will fit a Ranger but not the modern F-150's... if I remember correctly. My Bro's early 98 F-150 kit has the pocket on the bottom.. but I couldn't find one with pocket on bottom to fit my 2001.
That's just from memory and we all know how that goes sometimes.

Hah, sorry, kinda braindead atm. Just purchased a 2003 f150 single cab. I bought a Scosche kit from Wal-mart that said it should fit f150s '97 and up, but it didnt seem to. Also the pocket was on the top, so I was glad to return it anyways.
Anyone had any experience with the kit B-Man linked?(thanks for the link
I had actually checked the scosche website, but guess I was too keyed in on looking for one that linked in on the air-conditioner screws)
This is my first attempt at an installation, so excuse the newbness =)

Was typing mine before Tek posted. See, I dont really get when some say 'fits f150 'XX year and up', how Im supposed to tell if it really fits =/
Like the two links below both say they will fit in late model ford F150s. What do I look for to know if this is true? Is there a characteristic in the kit that will always look the same if it will fit?

Will it work?
In the above link, someone says the 1327 will NOT work in the newer f150s. Does anyone know for a fact that this is or isnt true from experience?

Well, the Scosche kit from Wally World for the 97-up will fit your 03. It is the same that I have in mine and looks just like the picture on the first link you posted. You will need to read the instructions on any kit that you purchase because it will tell you that you have to break off certain tabs and leave certain tabs in place. The one that you have shown on Link 1 is definitely the right kit it seems but since I do not have any current reference materials I can't give you the actual part no. of the one you need. The Scosche that Wal-Mart sellsfits Ford multiple models, multiple years as well as Dodge multiple models and years. Again I stress for you to read the directions to be sure you don't do something to the kit to make it not work (such as breaking off tabs you need or not breaking off tabs that would prevent you from installing it.

oops, sorry about that I looked at the Scosche link you posted and both the FD1325 & 1327 will work. The only difference is that the 1325 appears to use the method of mounting by using the screws that hold the air conditioning controls and has the pocket on top. I personally am using the 1327 with the pocket on bottom but that is just my preference.
I think you are referring to the metal stabilizer bar (rear support for factory radio). To my knowledge they have been present in Ford cars and trucks since the 80's when the DIN size was introduced and possibly even longer. I can't comment on every truck and car produced but each truck I have worked on have had this bar. As to answering the question about the pocket getting in the way if it was at the bottom, this has not been my experience in the past. The key here is to get the kit that fits your vehicle and matches your requirements (such as pocket, no pocket, eq slot, etc.). The kit manufacturers are usually 99% accurate meaning if they say it fits your year, make, and model then it is a 99% chance it does.
Mmm.. the kit I got by International something or other at BestBuy can be installed with the pocket on top or bottom. To install it with the pocket on the bottom I needed to trim some plastic inside the dash that the HU was contacting but it works fine.
