for those with alpine 9813

Did all of you run the heavy gauge power wire to your deck? I noticed on the crutchfield website that they recommend the 10 gauge wiring kits.

I would recommend if they say to run the heavy gauge wire, go ahead and do it. I installed a 7893 in a friend's houseboat - of course we ran two amps, 14 speakers and a sub off of it, but I ended up having to reconnect the power wire because when we would crank the system up, the head unit would start cutting in and out. Alpine knows what they are talking about and if they say to do it, I would do it!!

I understand this is an extreme example, but if you are any way going to hook up amps and play it loud, I would run the heavy gauge wire.

I just bought this deck on crutchfield in the outlet store for 359. I thought that was pretty good considering I can return it for any reason within 30 days. Crutchfield also throws in all of the wiring and kits. Here is something that I wish that I would have had. It gives an extra $20 off to the purchaser and a $20 credit to the referrer if they are a new customer.

If anyone wants to use me, my email is jeremypaulwolfe@hotmail.com.

I hope that this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for all the help to this board for the decision making.

Ditto.
I installed 12 Guage wire (just this weekend) and have been jamming for 4 days with no problems.

However if you're not going to use the power from the deck (pre amps only) you don't need the extra wire. You can dis-able the Vdrive amp if you're not gonna use it. A friend of mine did this with his 9815.

well, I just hooked it up and decided to try it without using the heavy guage wire. I know that I am taking a chance on having to go back and re-wire. So far in just testing, it seems to work just fine. I am planning on only running a mono sub amp from the rca outs and then some alpine type s 5x7's which I haven't received from Ebay yet. I am very happy with the display on the alpine. the green buttons tend to match the factory dash very well.

By the way, I ordered a probox sub box this morning custom made for an 8" woofer (most of them come made for 10"). I am looking for a good sub amp to run it. I am thinking the new 8" comp vr.

follow up from last night. I played around a little more with the stereo today and when I do turn it up at high volumes, the screen flickers. I will be installing the 10gauge wire that I bought to go with it. Just a I guess I will be out just a little more work. I just wanted to post so that when someone does a search on the subject, they will see that it NEEDS to be done.

Let me restate that you only need to install the heavy guage wire IF you're going to use the HU amp. You can disable the onboard amp with the setup screens, then you won't need to run the extra wire.

I'll be installing the Alpine 9813 this week along with Alpine's S634 CD/MP3 changer. I was wondering if anyone else has installed the changer along with the head unit and what you think of the system?

I plan on running the heavy gauge wire to the HU, but I'd appreciate any other heads up on other items to keep an eye out for.

I wish that I could have installed the CD changer with the deck. I have the factory changer and wish that there were some way that I could integrate it with the Alpine. I used 10 gauge power wire, but I think that you could get away with 12 gauge power wire. One of the biggest pains is getting the wire fished down through the dash. It helps to have someone looking for you.

I'm going to be getting this HU and running a temp install in my truck w/o the extra power line. However soon after I'm going to replace the speakers in the door with some components and an amp (and I'm not going to run the back speakers) and will not even be using the built in amp.

Do you guys think it would be ok to run the HU off the stock power line into the stock speakers if its only for a limited time (less than a month I'd say) and if I keep it at limited volumes? It seems like it would be pointless to wire it with special wiring when I'm just going to change it soon after, but I dont want to do it if I'm going to hurt anything!

Thanks,
-Marshall

Cool

You won't hurt anything if you maintain control like you stated. Worst case, you'll blow the fuse to the stereo...

BTW: I have my 9813 running from the factory power wire and have not had a problem. I do have the internal amp turned off, however...

You shouldn't have a problem at all as long as you don't try to hammer it. I didn't notice a problem on mine with the stock wiring until I dialed it in past volume level 20 or so. At that volume level, the face started flickering a little bit so I could tell it was feeling the power surges. The 10 gauge power wire cleared that right up. Without the amp, you will not be using much power at all and should be fine in the long run.
