new head unit

i was thinking about buying one of the ford's 6 cd in-dash head units out of a new F150 or escape or anthing like that and i was wondering if it would work in my 1997 F150 lariat. it already has the factory cd changer in the extended cab, but i want one of the new head units that looks better and i won't have to reach behind my seat, will it work in my truck?

You'll need to buy some wiring harnesses to match up the 97 harness to the new model harness.

I think you'll also have to do some dash modification in order to mount it as well.

I'm not real familiar with how the 97 stereo mounting hole is constructed.

I think your 97 dash is exactly like my 99's. If you go with a true "double din" unit, you'll have to cut some of the plastic support that angles up inside your dash. It's not hard and can be done with a hacksaw blade.
I replaced my stock oem w/ a dual media unit I got off ebay and it works great. If you need lots of power and are really trying to impress, you'll have to look at something other than a stock headunit.
good luck and good listening
