Does anybody else have chronic problems with HU's overheating?

If I turn up the volume more than half way, the stupid thing overheats EVERYTIME. I think it's cause in the pre 97 models there isnt hardly any room in the dash. So the HU's don't have enough room to breath. It stinks, cause now it looks like I'm gonna have to get an external amp, just so i can use my HU.
Has anyone else ever had these problems?

Mine did that with the CD (in dash) player. Took it back to the dealer, They took it out of the dash, called me a few days after that to come get it.
They installed a fan in the head unit. You can hear it run if you turn the volume down real low.
No more trouble since. Plays COOL music. (No pun intended)

Head unit temp
I would have to say that if thier was no proble of over heating before the new head unit, then most probally the cause is the fact that your amplifying a system that already has a amp (Factory)probally leading the head unit to see a low ohm level. or u could have a exposed wire double check that. I have been boing car audio professionally for around 5 years and havent seen any overheating issues! (except for the factory amp thing)
My headunit (Clarion drx 9675z) has a color display and the display gets really dark after 20 mins or so, even with the contrast so it's really bright. My headunit needs to be externally amped so I think it's got something to do with the color display. I really don't care how it looks (the chix do
)... I bought it for the sound quality.
