Stock Stereo cut out, need help getting at the plug

OK, I may be a little slow, but I cannot figure out how to release the stock stereo from its carriage.

A few days ago, the radio wouldn't work when I started up in the morning. On the way to work, it came on for a few minutes with its memory cleared, then it faded out again. I had the heater core replaced last year and I'm hoping that a plug has worked its way lose. I checked and swapped the fuse and thats not it.
Any help in getting at this thing would be greatly appreciated.

If I do have to replace the unit (its a 97' with cassette and rear CD changer) what would a salvage unit cost ?

thanks!

See the holes on both sides of the face of the radio? Those are the key...

Do a search for 'RADIO REMOVAL' and see what turns up. Sometimes it can be tricky but I've seen some great 'go-by' instructions.

if you cant find a shop near by with keys. you dont really need them becasue all you have to do is take a hanger and bend to peices of it into a U shape push them into the holes and then use the sides of the radio to pull it out. not the best way to do it but as long as your carful it will cause no damage and works everytime if your doing it right

Thanks for the quick reply. I found a link to the Install Doctor. It looks like I can fashion some wire keys and just push in on those while pulling out on the stereo? Sounds easy enough.
Thanks again.

Shove your "rig job keys" in the holes and SPREAD THEM APART FROM EACH OTHER while pulling out on the radio.

You know what I mean?

Drop me a note if you need the head unit. I have one from my '98 and I'll gladly give it to you. If you need the changer, let me know as well...
