Looking for a New Alpine, mine is dying
Well after 6 years my Alpine is dying, so I am looking for a new head unit. I want to stay with Alpine since I have a 6 disk changer too.
When you play FM you have to turn the volume up to at least 12 to hear it. When you play a CD it works fine and you get full volume.
I can't really complain I got good use out of it.
I am thinking of the CDA-9813 any pros and cons for this head unit??
I saw the links someone gave for online car stereo places and found it at http://www.carmedia1.com for $309.00
That looks like a good price, but has anyone delt with them, are they a good place?? If not what places would you recomend
I see http://www.discountcarstereo.com has it for $329 and http://www.cbrstereo.com has it for $319
for 20 bucks I willing to go with the place that is the most honest and will give me good customer sevice.

I just got mine from http://www.ikesound.com . I had a good experience and I was getting a couple items and they reduced shipping for me.
Good Luck!

Hey Don...
The 9813 is the one i'm goin with. I'm ordering it from crutchfield even though i could find it cheaper. Crutch throws in all the stuff necessary for installation, and since i have a stock head unit now, thats what i need. I didnt want to go through the hassle of ordering it from another company and getting the install stuff from crutch, just more convenient this way, i think. But since you have an aftermarket head unit in there, you could get it from anywhere without a problem. A store i would recommend is HookedOnTronics...they have it for $318 - Alpine CDA-9813. I'm also getting the Alpine XM tuner at a $100 discount from crutch (sale til monday), and since they have 6 months, no interest, everything works out perfect
. Hope i helped.-KRSC02

I just installed the 9813 in my 'Screw. Very nice unit. Amazing number of crossover adjustments are possible, 5 pre-programmed EQ curves, etc.
Plays MP3 discs better than any other unit I tried at the store (Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse, Sony, etc.) They have a new "Folder" button that allows you to easily scroll through all of the folders and then the songs within the folder without navigating via a menu. Best of all, you can do it with the remote and not have to look at the remote to do it (Up / Down arrow to change folders, Right / Left arrow to change tracks). They did their homework with file handling with this one. BTW, it also plays WMA files as well.
Track to track time with MP3's is exactly the same speed as a regular CD.
You can turn off the unit's internal power amp if you are using outboard amplifiers. This helps with noise and heat reduction.
It uses the Alpine "AI Net" bus to talk to peripherals like CD changers and XM units. Be sure your changer is AI net.
If you need a RCA input, they have 2 interface models available. 1 terminates the AI Net bus directly on the radio and costs $15. If you use this one you cannot connect any other devices to the bus.
The 2nd unit passes the AI Net bus through so you can connect changers, XM, etc. It costs about $80.
My only complaint with the unit is you can't see the clock if you are set to view Artist, Album, Song title info.
My only other complaint is the manual is very tough to understand with regards to setting up the crossover network. That could be because I'm dumb, however...

All in all, I very pleased with it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking at new head units.
BTW, I have found that between XM and MP3 discs, I don't need a changer anymore...
Thanks Guys
I installed the 9813 today, so far it is awesome. Now I just have to learn how to use all the funtions.
Man there are a lot of stuff to learn, thankfully a lot of the funtions are similar.

I just got the same unit installed last week don, i love it. The only thing i dont like, the only thing, is that on the remote, there is not title button. i am looking for maybe another remote that could do this. i found one that controls the changers that has it, but i dont know if it will control this unit. i probably hit the title button the most, now that i have xm. what they should have done was have a title mode that displays the artist followed by the song title. if you guys know something that i dont about settings that could make this happen, please let me know
thanks a lot guys...enjoy your units.

The Head Unit wasn't the problem.
It was a speaker.
When they installed the roll bar, they had to move the seat belt reel about 1/4 of a inch foward to clear the roll bar. When they did that they ground one of the holes a little bigger. Well that was right above the left rear speaker.
It turned out to be a ton of metal shavings all over the speaker. It would sometimes ground the speaker out, causing the head unit to shut down.
When I installed the new head unit it did the same thing. I did some investigation and found the problem.
So I took one of the JL Coax's from the front and replaced that speaker. I bought a pair of Boston Acoustics NX87. and installed them in the drivers doors. Wow what nice speakers, much deeper bass and better highs.
Oh well at least I now have a Kick A$$ system
