problem after installing system
Recently a friend of mine had a local shop install an amp into his truck and they did a really *****ty job. power wire from battery wasn't run cleanly, fuse wan't mounted to back wall, etc. and the driver's door was kicking in and out...
we re-ran the wires and clean up the mess as best we could. The driver's door turned out to be a bad splice that came lose, so we redid that, and put the door skin back on and such.
The problem now is that sometimes his cargo light will remain on.. or goes on/off intermittently......what did we screw up? We didn't do anything other than resplice the speaker wire. weird as hell but we can't figure it out.
Thanks in advance.
His truck is a 97 regular cab 4x4

I would hope you went back to the shop and gave them a serious **** chewing...? If you're gonna pay a shop a good bit of money to do a job.. you should keep on them until you are satisfied with the work. This is true with any service or support business.. as well as merchandise.
As far as the Dome Light problem.. sorry.. not my expertise.

yeah, it's a small home-town po-dunk shop that did it..my friend didn't want to raise hell, so I went down there with him, asked him about it...
*side note* the install was a 5ch amp to the stock HU, so normally you'd run some line level converters from the HU to the amp....this guy just runs a power on lead and doesn't hook the 4 door spkrs up! told my friend he couldn't do it....so I ask him, 'why didn't you run some line level converts and hook up all the spkrs?" he was like, "well I'm used to installing high quality systems and you get line noise when you do that.." I basically used a couple choice words to describe his quality of work and his poor quality of even doing the slightest thing like mounting the in-line fuse securely. It's too bad, cuz I like supporting my home-town businesses, but hell, that place just plain sucks.
One of these days my buddie's gonna come down to chicago and visit and we'll have the same shop that did mine finish the job....or if we get brave, run the spkr wire ourselves... *shiver*

There's nothing to be nervous about when running you're own speaker wire. It just takes some common sense and a little ingenuity on finding good places to pull the wire. Other than that its just hooking the wires to the amp and speakers. For the most part, vehicle interior panels come off quite easily.. once you've got a feel for your way around in your own vehicle its not to hard to know how to make your way through others.
And remember.. there are always people on message boards(especially this one) and other forms of information that are very helpful if you get stumped or need some pointers..
I hope your friend didn't pay much for that guy to install his equipment.. he got seriously ripped off. I'm sure I would have said a few choice words to that guy too. Make sure you get the word around town about your experiences with the shop.. he'll be forced to improve his service if he wants to stay in business.
