Will it work?

I have a friend who just bought a 2003 F250 and he has taken the factory head unit out of the truck to buy an aftermarket head unit. The HU is a 6 disk changer. Will that fit in a 2000 F150, i.e., are the connectors the same, and are the dimensions the same, etc.?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

If its DIN mountable you'll be fine.

Personally.. forget a cd changer.. get an MP3 head unit. You can fit almost more songs than a cd changer will hold on 1 MP3 disc.

Thanks for the reply. I know that the F150 and the F250 are BIN mountable, but I guess this is where my ignorance of the topic comes in. Aren't there different BIN "specs", i.e., for different model Ford cars, trucks, etc.? Please forgive me if my verbage doesn't make sense. I know very little about auto audio and the installation thereof.

Thanks,

The DIN specification indicates the mounting hole size and style. There's really only 3 kinds of car radio mounts.. Shaft (old 2 **** style), DIN (including DIN & 1/2 and Double DIN), and Japanese. DIN is the most common.

I think you can be certain that all you'll need is an installation kit and wiring harness and you'll be good to go. If its an IN-DASH Changer then it'll probably work just fine like any other aftermarket CD Reciever.

Do you know the Make and Model of the Changer?

If you're asking about the wiring harness being the same for the 2000 F150 and the 2003 F250..if the 2003 F250 has the same connector as the 2001 model.. then yes they should be the same harness style.

The part number or model is 3C3T-18C815-AB. It is a stock 6 CD changer and AM/FM Head Unit that came out of a 2003 F250.

Does this help to know if it will fit in the F150?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it should just swap out easily.. I THINK it might even be the same wiring harness in both trucks.. although the mounting of the unit might be slightly different (I dont know about that though).

Thanks for the information!

I am going to talk to the local car audio shop here in town and see what they say and how much it will cost to have them install it. I really do not want to tear the dash apart myself. I want it warrantied for rattles, etc.

Getting the stereo out of the dash is easy. I would suggest just taking a look for yourself before you go paying someone else to do it... its really not hard.

TEK2000:

You are right, taking a DIN mounted stereo out is very easy. I have not messed with replacing stereo equipment since the late 80's where you had to practically take the dash off to get to the stereo and mounting hardware.

The DIN mount just pops the stereo out with the DIN tool. Took all of 5 minutes to pop the original stereo out and look to see if the connectors will be the same on the two units. Looks like the new unit uses the same connector. I will let you know how it turns out. I havn't gotten the new one from my buddy yet, so I will let you know if I run into any problems when I go to install it.
