Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers Madd... that's just my opinion. I've never been a big fan of Alpine.. not because of the quality. Its more the cosmetics that turns me off. I'm just not fond of having 4 big *** buttons plus another 25 or so smaller buttons (as on the CDA-7897). There is absolutely no need for all of these buttons. The Kenwood X859 has 12 buttons (including Eject Button) and a volume ****... very simple and functional.

You are correct about the features... the CDA-7897 vs. the X859 is very comparable and both at $600 SUGGESTED retail price. (Although in most stores you'll probably find the Kenwood much cheaper..as on Tweeters website.. TWEETER CD HEAD UNITS

The green interior lights is the only thing I don't like about my truck. I wish they still had the blue lights like the 98's (I think).

Im not moving on the head unit. The Pioneer fits my needs.

The subs seem to be the hardest decision. Whats the going rate to have a sealed box made? Is there a particular design that i should go for to allow my cd changer to be mounted, etc? Anything you would change if you had to do your over with? I know i can save a lot of cash if i purchase just about everything off the net compared locally.

Do i want to run my subs in a series with a 1 channel high powered amp at like 1 or 2 ohms? Will i need any of those Lightning Cap thingers?

You did not ruffle my feathers. I do not own an Alpine but am looking very hard at them and the Kenwood. I have always owned Kenwood head units.
But the question is do I want XM or Sirius? Thats the deciding factor between Kenwood or Alpine.
Kenwood is offering a free Sirius module with the purchase of a head unit which is appealing.
Alpine does not offer anything and the XM module is like $240.
Even if you bought a Sirius module it is like $140.
So Sirius is becoming very appealing!

Did you pick the components? You can get some nice Focal ones at Zalytron. Ask for the upgrade special for $129.

Madd... I think you probably already know what choice I would make in your situation.

It would be down to either Pioneer or Kenwood for me.. if I were debating on XM or Sirius.

Zalytron sells mostly raw drivers, but also sells some kits and components sets. Basically, they took the 165 E2 system and added a better tweeter and crossover. It is an older line, and probably one of the lower ones at that price. Zalytron has some Utopia mid-ranges on sale for $90 5", $99 6", BTW.
