Cd player overheat
Cd player overheat
2000 Ford f150, 33k
Stock CD player
Still under warrenty
I play a cd, and after about 6 tracks,
or 20 minutes, the LCDs start dimming out,
and the player shuts off.
When this happens, the player reads "CD HOT".
The cd ejects, and it is very hot.
The only way I can get the radio/cd player to
turn on again, is to shut the truck off and
start it up.
Not only am I worried about my cd's melting,
But a console fire seems quite possible.
Any help woould be great.
Thanks!

Had somewhat of the same problem with my radio. Ford told me the radios have been having a good bit of problems, take it back and it them to warranty it. It start out for me...when i had the stock radio in there and the cd player worked but the radio only picked up static(yes the antena was connected) so i got it replaced well now i could insert a cd but after a little playing time and once i took it out to put a new one in the cd was really hot and it wouldnt take cds until the deck had cooled down and been turned off...so i took it in and had that one replaced and now it works fine...
so long story short take it in

just drive it around till it says that then bring it in so you can show them. then they will take it in the back and take a look at it and then order a new radio most likely.
I drove around last night and it played
cd's just fine with no problems.
The cd's got quite warm, but the player
never kicked out.
So now I'm not sure what the deal is.
I think having the volume cranked up for a
while adds to the problem.
If I can't crank it, i'm going to yank it.
I will see if the dealer will replace it,
more than likley it won't act up when I take it
in to show them the problem, and I really
don't want those morons at Ford digging around
in the console with there screwdrivers.
But it's under warranty, so I will give them ONE
TRY. And I will be watching closely.

I had something similar happen to me yesterday on a 3 hour weekend trip. Played CDs for about an hour, then the CD player quit with the "CD Hot" message. Took the CD out and it was hot. This has never happened on my 30 minute commute to work, so I doubt I'll be able to reproduce it for the dealer....

Have the dealer replace with New model
My "old" 99 would run hot as all get out. The new 2002 units have an extra fan in there somewhere, as you can hear it running sometimes after you shut the engine off. Read here that the dealers are supposed to replace the problem units with the newer ones with the extra fan. Good luck!!
