Post Pace Edwards Roll Top Cover

I have my Pace Edwards roll top cover for 3 years now.I had never done any maintenance to it.
I took off the lid this afternoon to see if the reservoir was dirty.
We got lots of rain the past month and i noticed that the 2 drains weren't properly working.
There was a piece of silicon in the right one and on the left side there was this sticker probably blocking the hole when there is water in the reservoir.
Originally the sticker is on the underside of the lid, got loose and had fallen in the reservoir.
The reservoir itself was very clean.Took the sticker and piece of silicon out, problem fixed.

But what really scared me was this.

All staples were rusted/corroded. Why didn't they use stainless steel staples or something with a quality product like this.

I cleaned all staples and got rid of the corrosion.
Finally, I put some oil on every staple.
That will prevent rusting in the future, I hope.
Took me about an half hour.

Thanks for the tip on the staples. I recently installed the PE roll top cover on my flareside. I also found out that you have to periodically inspect the cover box to assure nothing has clogged up the drainage tubes. It's only 4 screws, no big deal. I was surprised to see that there is no weather stripping closing off the gap between the box cover and roll top. All sorts of debris can blow down there (i.e. leaves, pollen, etc.) Anyway, I'm pleased with it. It's also helpful to apply silicone spray to the track every now and then. As well as a good vinyl UV protectant to the cover. I use this stuff called Tonno Tonic by Extang. I picked it up at Road Runners Performance Center. Expensive but I only use it every few months. Take care.

I'm surprised but the amount of rust visible in your pictures...in the top picture there is some rust around the one bolt on the right. Is that part of the PE cover? I have had my Roll N Lock almost 5years and have found no rust anywhere including inside the box. Maybe that would explain the price difference between the Pace Edwards and the Roll N Lock.

Yes, it was the only one that was rusted.
What you actually see is the box where the cover rolls up (gr!)
Right side of the picture is where the cab is.
