Lo-Jack? Yay? Nay?

Hey guys!

Just recently put TONS of money in my truck and looks great! I am putting a remote start/alarm on it in a few weeks and lo-jack popped in my head. Idk if it is worth it or not? It's $700 for the system, extra $300 for extended warranty and $100 for early notification stuff. If vehicle is not found within 24 hrs, you get your money back.

Just to shoot high... $1100 for protection of your vehicle. So if it ever gets stolen, $33,000+ is protected by $1100. That definitely seems worth it. But idk. I just can't give myself a for sure 100% yes.

My question is: Is Lo-Jack really worth it or no? Should I just stick w/ the 2-way alarm I put on and leave it at that?

Thanks guys!

I totally agree with you. My 2011 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 was stolen out of my driveway September 15th. Still bummed out by it. :/

Trucks are expensive. $30k to say on the bottom dollar end of spectrum. Any paying $1100 to protect something of such value sounds as an obvious yes.

I guess I'm wondering if anybody has had luck with lojack on their truck.

Oh, I failed to mention I live 15 mins outside of the heart of Detroit, Michigan? haha. On a side note, it's not as bad as it seems. Detroit is a great city... except for its city officials; they all suck.

Thanks

Sick truck, I work for LoJack, and with my bias aside, you would have to be crazy not to put a LoJack on it. Michigan is the sixth ranked state with highest motor vehicle thefts in the nation. 90% plus recovery rate and money back if by chance it isnt found, no brainer. Email me and I can hook you up.

Read the fine print

I bought it for my wife's new car (Lexus LS430) and I live about 70 miles in the sticks south of Washington DC. Come to find out, that they don't have coverage down here, or didn't when I bought it, but by golly, if the thief goes into DC, it's be found. So peace of mind, car is now 6 years old, no one has stolen it. It's like having two insurance policies, where one pays if it is lost, and the other helps find it so it won't have to pay.

1st check to make sure your local law enforcement agency participates in the lojack program (a few do not)

2nd yes it is effective but I would chew on the price a tad...$700 is just pushing the higher side.

Yeah. I am going to call LoJack tmrw and ask what cities/counties have lojack surrounding my city. Being that I live right outside the 6th highest city for auto theft in the country, I'm sure the departments use it.

And yes... $700 is expensive, but looking at it from a value perspective... My truck is paid off over $32k and along with many add-ons and mods. Paying $700 or even $600 to have LoJack installed to protect $32,000 piece of property is worth it to me. And if your vehicle is not recovered in 24 hrs or reporting it stolen, LoJack refunds your money for the system.

I talked to two different people at LoJack today and they helped out tremendously and answered all the questions I had. I have developed a few more questions to ask, but I'm sure they can help me.

If interested or just want to ask any questions, give Jim Boucher a call at 781-302-4209. He is the guy I spoke with and answered all my questions!

Consider asking your insurance if they'll discount your premium. Savings there may pay for the LoJack. Recovering your truck before it gets to the chop shop, or driven until its destroyed, or used in another crime... well worth the cost.

Definitely, rcul8r. According to the LoJack site, it has the potential to knock off up to 25% off your premium. Pretty solid if you ask me...

Hey Guys!

Definitely consider LoJack. They pretty much guarantee their product. Ok, $700 might be a bit of a price to spend right off rip, but honestly think about it and crunch the number.

Truck: $33k+
Accessories:$4k+
Sentimental value: No value
Insurance, tax, interest etc.: $$$$$$

Then the LoJack recovery system: $700. (Maybe you can talk them down or try to get a deal. Who knows)

Your truck gets stolen and now you report it stolen to the police. If your vehicle is not located within 24hrs from the time you report it stolen; you get your money back. Then if it is not recovered, your insurance will cover the theft of your vehicle etc.

If your vehicle is found, the LoJack system paid for itself. It's almost dumb not to do it.

(And I am not at all bragging guys, so PLEASE don't think I'm trying to show off or brag) Coming from my end, my truck is an '09 STX thats paid off and just put over $4000 into along with a 2-way alarm/remote start. If it gets stolen, all I have is my alarm to notify me; and if the truck is gone, that's its. Report it stolen and hope for the best.

If it get notified that the alarm is activated and the truck is gone when I go to see whats wrong, I call the police, report my stolen truck and my LoJack system is activated. From that point, there is now a 24 hour period that LoJack guarantees your vehicle to be found. If not, you get your money back. If it's found, the LoJack system has done its job and you get your vehicle back.

Any questions guys, Call Jim Boucher @ 781-302-4209. He is a great guy to talk to and will answer any questions you have. If you call him, tell them you were sent from the F150online.com forum. Maybe they can offer a discount or something.

Definitely think about it guys.

Ha! Wanna bet? Don't believe Lo-jack. Ask your insurance company how much they'll give you off. I'll bet that it doesn't even come close to 25%! Then when you find out that they're lying about that, ask yourself what else they're lying about! You should also ask your local PD if Lo-Jack is worth while and how fast they actually recover Lo-Jack equipped vehicles. They should be able to give you REAL numbers and not a lot of wishful sales promises.

Something else to think about is Lo-jacks promise to refund your money if your vehicle isn't recovered in 24 hours. Recovery is one thing but recovering INTACT is quite another! The police do manage to recover most stolen vehicles, eventually. But most are totalled before the police find them. IMO if Lo_jack was a good as they claim, then a LOT more people would be using it! I suggest that you do some research on the internet and see what people's real world results have been with Lo_jack instead of just believing everything that they say.

PS Just for the heck of it I called my insurance company (Liberty Mutual)and asked. They'll give me whopping $4 off for adding Lo-Jack. That's on a policy that costs almost $1000/year. Hardly the 25% that Lo_jack IMPLIES that you can get! As I said, once I catch a company in a lie, I don't trust anything else that they have to say! Case closed on Lo-Jack as far as I'm concerned!

Cool LoJack story. Only one of 13 cars had a LoJack but it led to the recovery of all 13 and broke up a theft ring. http://www.autotheftblog.com/2013/02...to-theft-ring/

Lo jack may be a good for some people being thats it based on worth while info.

If you install an alarm system consider having a kill switch installed at the same time.

Possibly separate from the alarm that is installed. CANT STEAL A TRUCK THAT U

CANT START!!!!!!!!! There are other options on an alarm that can be added to. A tilt

switch,,,, that tells you if truck is being jacked up!!!!! You also dont have to use just

a switch that u flip on and off for it. I have a 2 way viper alarm on my. For window breaking,,,, and there other things that i can to it too,,, if i want too.

hope this adds some help
