Painless 30140 out of stock? Now what?

Well I was rounding up the parts to put my EFans in today, and have found out that Painless isn't quite so painless right now.

The 30140 kit is backordered and not going to be available till late Aug.

I was really hoping to get my fans in soon, and loved their system.

Does anyone else make a good system that will soft start the fans at 50% then run them up as temp goes up?
And has a good warranty?

Thanks!
I am going to be using troyer fans.

I know DC Controls (Delta Current) is back up and running now with a new design of controller. I have used many of their products and they were darn near bulletproof. Just looked on the Painless Website and they claim to have them in stock and MUCH cheaper than what the rest of us paid.

Ya, I called Painless themselves, and the gal told me that they are totally revamping the 30140 system. They don't have any in stock, even though their web site says so...

They quit making the kit back in November. And have been to the drawing board several times trying to get the bugs worked out.

She told me at the earliest it would be July, but doesn't expect it to be early.

I wonder what is wrong with them that they are re-designing them ??

I still have one (the 30140) brand new in the box, never used I might sell if you can't find one. Also have the upper Rad hose adapter that has been drilled and tapped for the temp sender. Not sure about letting go of them ....try me though if interested. PM or E-mail = pwhite12(at)tds(dot)net

I am really considering not doing to project anymore... I am thinking about just selling my fans and starting a different project.
Which really sucks... I was kinda looking forward to it...

Are you still running your DC unit?

Actually, no, not at the moment. I had a momentary brain f**t and bought the 'MADFAN" kit with the dual speed fan to try for a while..so far it's working very well. I still have the 2010 fans in the box as well as the painless controller though. I may even try out the new DC Controller 'down the road' at some point. This is what happens when you are retired and have nothing to do but to spend money (which I don't have) trying different things.

I'm very happy w/ my DC Controls controller. It has worked flawlessly from the first time I turned the key after install. With the soft start and variable speed powering a Mark VIII fan, I'm still running a 90A alternator w/ no apparent problems.

That being said, it's only been installed 8 months so I can't comment on it's long term reliability. Talk to me in 5 years or so ...

I couldn't agree more with you, the DC controllers have been bulletproof..I only hope the new design are as good. Only had one go bad on me ant it wasn't the controllers fault..had corrosion build up on the temp connection pins and they broke off. Just chalked it up to a poor place where I had it.

I was going to ask how you liked the temp sensor that came with it...

I already have to adapter that I would have needed to use with the painless kit. Do you think DC's unit would work with a thread in type temp sensor?

No, I don't think so. They are designed to work with the small radiator probe. What broke on mine was the brass pins on the controller where they attach. The sensor worked great on mine, never came out of the radiator, always stayed in place

Did it look/feel like it was ever wearing a hole into the fins?

That is the only thing that I don't like about the DC kit.

Absolutely not....it is a very small sensor that just wedges it self in the fins and is rubber coated.....never did it do any damage to the radiator as the metal ones can.

I agree ... a non-issue, in my opinion.

My only problem w/ the sensor is the length of the lead. The installation instructions call for mounting the controller close to the battery (keeping the wires between the battery and controller as short as possible). They also call for mounting the temp sensor close to the radiator outlet pipe. On my '99, the battery is on the right and the radiator outlet is on the left ... a couple foot longer lead to the sensor would have been nice.

Close up of the sensor ...

I agree, that sensor wire could be another 12" or more IMO.
