Efans on but strain on 110amp Alt!

With lights on at a stop, they pull down more so than what I remember when I had my 2000 Expy. Come to find out my '06 F150 has stock 110A alternator. Has anyone had issues or switched up to a 130A unit? I don't want to end up broke down out of town b/c of overworking my stock 110A unit.

Thanks,
Rob

I have a 130 on my '97 w/ the Flexalite 270 kit but the wiring is more of a concern than the amp draw. Ive noticed no dimming with my 130amp fyi.

I'm going to change the belt, maybe I'm getting some slippage. It has 91K on it and never been replaced. If that doesn't take care of it, then I'm going to get a 130A unit. The fans are actually a Dorman replacement kit for a 2001 Seville V8. There dual 15". Got it off Amazon for $115 new. Dual hayden controllers running through a another set of 50Amp relays to carry the load. Nothing fancy, but everything came under $200.

Thanks for the reply,
Rob

I dunno if alternators will do their rated output at idle.

I need to step up to a bigger alternator too, mines been really noisy since i put a big H.O. 15" fan on it. At one point with; AC, radio, lights, both fans on the voltage dropped on the dummy gauge real low

Before I upgrade the alternator I am going to do the so called " Big 3/4 Upgrade" on the wires. I found it in the Tech Articles. I am also going to run a toggle to just keep 1 fan running during HVAC operation since we are not hitting 90s/100s down here in Houston.

Thanks,
Rob

I had that 220 Amp alt on mine for about 6 months then began to have troubles. The amperage would 'jump' up and down enough to notice it in the lights at an even RPM range. It's sitting on my bench getting ready to send back. I will not be replacing it with another one because these alternators are controlled thru the PCM, I don't want to take the chance of messing that up. I am currently running the one '88 Racing' linked through American Trucks 130 amp unit and is doing very well so far

I'm wondering if they're overdrive pulley got the best of it.....it should work great with under drive pulleys.....depends on their overdrive percentage though.....
