Question SPAL e-fan controller install

After years of dealing with crappy controllers and fans wearing out too quickly because they stop and start too frequently, I finally decided to buy a SPAL controller for my e-fans. While trying to install the controller, however, I seem to have found a problem. My 2000 F150 w/ 5.4L engine doesn't seem to have an engine coolant temp (ECT) sensor, but rather only a cylinder head temp (CHT) sensor, according to location pictures and wiring diagrams from Chilton and Haynes manuals.

Also, I read in the SPAL FAN-PWM-V3 manual that our trucks which use the CHT in lieu of ECT have a multi-stage voltage output which can confuse the controller.

There is a plugged hole in the engine coolant cross-over, just outside of the thermostat housing (picture to come). I am considering ordering the SPAL ECT sensor (FAN-PWM-TS), installing it in this location, and calling it a day (if the threads match). Otherwise, I'll try rigging up a wiring system for an off-the-shelf ECT sensor that fits the threading.

Has anyone else tried either of these options, or have any other suggestions, especially anything that wouldn't require spending more money?

I appreciate any input you guys might have, especially if you're currently using a SPAL controller. Thanks in advance!

Yes, no ECT on yours.
It's been a while since I used the Spal, but as I recall their sensor with the plug in harness is the one to get. I had mine installed in the block drain left side and compensated for the temp variance by adjusting the on/off points from the actual temp at the radiator via infrared thermo. The block tap and crossover tap should be 3/8" ntp, iirc.
If you use the tapped hole in the cross over you may need an adapter, best to ask Spal.

Thanks for the response, ONELOWF! I'll try to call Spal when their customer service opens up tomorrow (Monday) morning before ordering the sensor. Do you know why the sensor would need an adapter if the cross-over hole's already tapped 3/8" NPT? Also, is there an advantage to the block drain location over the cross-over? Have you had any problems with the wire/sender getting damaged due to road debris in that location?

After further review....no adapter required. I was remembering an Autometer gauge sensor and not the Spal sensor! I put mine in the block drain because I had no open port in the crossover. The Spal should plug into your crossover with no problems.

Cool. I ordered the TS earlier today, and hopefully it'll be smooth sailing once it comes in. I already made sure I've got everything else I need. I might even try to take some pictures and do an install write-up (I also upgraded the radiator to the dual-core).
