This Spal fan only draws 22 amps, per http://www.universalpartsinc.com/det...?part=30102082. And their V3 controller says if you use a non-spal fan that it must draw between 4-30 amps. And says that it should not be used with SPAL extreme performance fans, Ford Taurus fans and Mark VIII fans.

I sent something similar and he just refunded my $. I told him I was just looking for some shipping info

So I have the fan but no way to control it! Its a Mark VIII and SPAL says specifically not to use their controller.

What should I look into?

You could tell him you still want the controller, you just want a real estimate of how long it'll take.

In the mean time, you can:
  • run a manual relay setup if you really want to install it immediately (not recommended if you might forget to turn it on when needed).
  • use the SPAL controller with their high-amp fan relay, though that will get expensive.
  • run a standard temp probe controlled relay from the parts store (or any controller, really) and add in a simple high-amp relay between the control relay and the fan.
For either of the last two options you'll have to choose high or low to wire up, unless you want to get really complex with relays and wiring. How many ways can you skin a cat? There's more ways to wire up an electric fan.

If I was you this is what I would do. Re-order the fk50 controller from DC Controls. It's true, you won't hear anything from them other than the PayPal receipt, not saying that this right, but that is just the way he works. That being said, I have had two controllers from them and they ARE bulletproof! Especially if you are going to use it on a Mark VIII fan. Expect about a 3 to 4 week wait time for the controller. He builds these by himself individually. I did get lucky on mine and did get a response from an e-mail I sent. Again, it might not the best way to do business, but, the end product is worth every penny and time spent. !!

Thanks sam and ufc, I emailed him about the mistake and re-ordered. Its seems to be the best way to go with this fan and the last thing I want is to have a malfunction on my cooling system. Even so, I plan on wiring a manual override switch so I can manually turn the fan on whenever I want
