Troyer E-fan Failure

So I was out and about today driving around town, got about a mile away from my house on the way home and Boom! CEL. Bust out the Xcal 3 and my blackberry. Code is P1229. Google it. Nada. Reset code, start driving again, and realize I'm retarded. Heat gauge is maxed out. Pop the hood, e-fans are inop. Check the fuse, check connections, everything looks normal. So I walk my happy butt home, leave the truck at Rite Aid. Good thing I picked up a 98 Taurus SE a couple months ago, or I'd be a pedestrian again. Now, please. Let the helping begin. I have no clue what to do with the e-fans to make them work again. Any tips would be helpful.

I dont think both fans woud fail at the same time, get you a volt meter and see if they are getting juice.

I agree with Matt. If the fuses aren't blown, check your power source. It not likely both fans would fail at the same time. I know they caution about water getting on the controllers. Any chance that could have happened?

umm...I doubt water got on them, it hasn't rained since last night, And I drove the truck about 15 miles to a friends house and it was fine. I have no clue what the issue could be. The wires all look fine, The connection to the battery terminal is good, nothing looks burned or melted. I'm going to go outside and check it again and make sure there aren't any loose grounds or anything. I'm stumped. Any one want to buy a turbo Fx2 with 40k miles on it?

Ok to rule out the fans hook them up directly to the battery and see if each one works. if they work like this then its the controller.

i agree its probably a controller. i think troyer was haing problems with those controllers but has since switched companies and fixed it.

if it is the case, call them and they should replace them no charge

surprisingly I had BOTH of my fans go out at the same time on my FAL270 set up and they were both controlled indepedantly from each other with there own relay, one for A/C and one for temp. So it is possible that they both went out. Like they said wire them direct to the battery with a jumper and see if they turn on. also see if they spin freely or if there is some resistance. On mine the brushes were burnt to hell and I dont know why unless it was from the previouse owner not using the correct gage wire, I bought my FAL270 used off of craigs list so no telling. In the mean time if you still have your stock fan put it back on.

Check the relays and inside the controller where the relays plug in for moisture. I went through 4 controllers and about 12 waterproof bosch 40A relays on my troyer setup. The controllers are like sponges when it comes to any moisture. Had them mounted in 3 different places to with no luck. Troyers fans are awesome (best fans I have had on my truck!)but I have no faith in the controllers. I swiched to a Dakota Digital inside the cab. NO more problems!

It's possible they both would not be workin depending how you set them up, if one is A/C triggered then it's understandable. I had both Troyer Controllers fail on me, so did Rafa, and so did others. The fans also eventually failed but that was due to water intake, not Troyers fault.
