Questions about U/D Pulleys Please

I have a few mods and thought about installing U/D Pulleys. The last I seen they were $225.00 on Troyers site I beleive. I also thought it said it gave you 11 more HP? Correct me if Im wrong here. I would also like to know if theres other brands anyone would recommand? Also besides more HP any more pros in having them and is there any cons of having them? Maybe the way the truck turns/steers ect? Next when you install the pulleys I also thought you had to have a differant size belt. If so does anyone have any part numbers for a replacment serpentine belt?

Im not sure Im wanting to run e-fans.

Also will I need to have a new custom tune made for the pulleys after being installed with my Edge custom tuned by Bill?

Thanks!

there are a couple companies out there but i think troyers is the most popular. i just installed troyers on mine and you can feel a little bit of power increase but it wont be like a supercharger or anything.

i got better mpg with them on a 600 mile trip i got 17.3 mpg according to my gryhon whereas i got 15.3 last time.

you do need a 1inch shorter belt (at least with troyers pulleys) and it does slow down the crankshaft and everything so you will need to bump up your idle RPM on your edge to prevent the battery voltage from dropping to low and not recharging

you will not need to update your custom tunes

i will highly recommend doing both e-fans and pulleys as i think they are some of the best mods you can do for the truck

Thanks for the feedback th3godf4th3r. First I just knew someone if not everyone was going to recommand doing both. (Pullyes and Fans) hehehe

I know the e-fans were pretty expensive the last time I looked. Like $400.00.

Are buying the pulleys worth the upgrade alone do you think?
Last year when I researched the e-fans It just seemed I seen many issues and dont feel like working on the truck and having to worry about long trips if I Have them installed.

From what I recall, if you order a pulley from Troyer, you can also get the belt from him. He will sell you the right sized Goodyear Gatorback belt.

I believe the part that Troyer sells is made by Auto Specialties Performance.

I like the pulley. I say do it.

So again I wont need any custom tune if I get either the pulleys or fans or both?

What RPM should be good enough to keep the battery charged? Next question what happens if ever sold my edge or it went bad. Would I run into problems since I would have no way to bump my RPMs to keep the battery charged?

Another reason im going there sometimes I take my edge out when going to the dealer and wouldnt want it to cause any issues. Example I have the booster recall or something like that and need to take my truck in and will probably set my truck to stock and take it in. Then put my edge back in afterwards.

I believe I have my rpm at 100 on my gyhphon.

If you just do pulleys, I think you would be just fine. Somebody else may chime in.

Luckily I don't think the dealership I go to really cares about my programmer.

But again with just pulleys I'm almost positive it still charges enough to be just fine. Especially for that small amount of time

I have both Troyer's dual fans and underdrive pulleys. My tuner is set to "Performance" with no special bump for idle and my system chargest just fine. I do notice a slight dimming of the headlights when I'm not giving her gas, but nothing significant (wouldn't even notice if you're not looking right at the beams). Starts up every time, every day. I did have to replace my battery a year ago, but it was almost 6 years old.

If you do install the Troyer fans, I'd highly recommend removing your radiator completely from the engine bay. It's not necessary, but it makes it a LOT easier, and less scratches on the arms. Just means you also have to buy new engine coolant (unless you think you can recycle the old stuff, but I wouldn't recommend that). Also, buy some better-quality butt splice connectors and some good wire loom to help protect the wires and make it look more professional. I heard these might be included in the kits now.

Together they make a nice little combo and I felt the power increase in the butt-dyno.

The kit brackets don't require you to remove the radiator... it's quite easy to mount the fans without (fans hang from the top of the radiator w/ the mounting kit while you secure the bottom from underneath). Kit also comes with good quality nylon crimp connectors and high-temp loom. It really is a pretty well put together kit.

Sounds like the kit has been modified/upgraded since I bought my fans in 2005, or maybe the kit for the 2004+ trucks is slightly different? Either way, that does sound a lot easier than the strips-throught-the-radiator install I went through.
