Pulley Question?

I bought a 6-rib underdrive pulley kit for a 02 4.6L f-150 from troyer performance. Has anyone ever installed them in their truck, how long does it take, and was it professionally done or is it a do it yourselfer? Did you see any hp gains in low or top end? Thanks for any advice.

its pretty easy to go. all you need is a breaker bar and a socket set. only hard part is fitting your arms between the motor and the fan shroud. i just replaced a few of my pulleys the other night.

My mechanic laughed. Then he said, "come on, let me show you". In 30 minutes, he was done and I had to pay for half an hour of labor. After watching, I knew I should have done it myself. But then again, I could have goofed. For 30 minutes, it was worth paying for the lesson. It cost about what an oil change goes for. Do you pay for those?

Troyer pullies

I just had my Troyer pullies installed a few weeks ago. I have the 5.4. I had a Ford dealership install them while my truck was there for other work. Im sure I paid too much, and could have done it myself, But I have little free time. The Stealership charged me $281.34 labor. Ive been told its a couple hour job. The mechanical fan and fan shroud get removed to access the waterpump . The harmonic ballancer is removed to install the crank pullie. a new shorter belt is needed. then reinstall the fan and shroud. If you have the tools and time its not too tough a job. It would also be a good time to add an Electric fan. Im not to sure about the gains, I did see an increase of about 1 MPG in fuel milage, but I also had my plugs changed at the same time . no problems to report.

i don't know whether to tell you they raped you on the price, lied on installation, or are plain idiots, on my van, took less than 1 hr,didn't remove shroud, did remove fan, did need a shorter belt though,my heart goes out for your wallet...

Yeah, My wallet hurt that day. My whole day of service cost me $1600. On an 05, 5.4 in an f150 I was told there is a little grinding you have to do on the waterpump for the new pulley. Im sure the dealership just goes by the book for its labor cost. whether it takes them less time or not. They got me for $182.31 labor to change the plugs. none broke. 61,000 miles

underdrive pullies

You said you didnt have to remove your fan? Which pullies did you swap? I believe the dealership guys see all the Roush trim and figure I can afford whatever they throw at me. Didnt they see the two toddler seats in the back? Well maybe they did. They are Recaros.
