Lately people have not been able to hear me on my cb unless we are about 20 feet apart. Any Farther and they cant here me. I can here them perfectly but they cant here me. I have the 102" whip antenna on a radioshack ball mount that is mounted to my toolbox.

My toolbox is clamped to my bed so it does not really touch anything that would ground to the frame. So im wondering if i need to run a wire from the ball mount to the frame to ground it or if its fine the way it is.

And if the antenna is not the problem then what might be the problem? I have been messing with this for a few weeks and i cant figure it out. Any help is much appreciated.

 

if you want to check your ground just extend it just put it on your frame on some bolt on your truck. im hooking my cb back up tonight. mine is grounded the exact same way as yours so i will let you know if it works.

 

I actually have grounded it to a bolt on the frame. This is why im confused cause it still doesnt work. I did find a few weeks ago that my ground wire from the cb was broken and i was still trying to use the cb. So i may have fried it but it still kinda works so i dont know.

 

the cb is only 35 bucks. go buy a new one. if it works keep it. if it doesnt return it.
