radar/laser detector

The city I live in right now has more money than it knows what to do with so all of our police cars are 07 Chevy Tahoes. I’m guessing that they have the top of the line, cutting edge radar or laser guns or whatever is the best. What should I buy to protect myself from them besides the obvious answer of going the speed limit?

Really, it'll come down to how much you want to spend. People are always going to recommend the top dogs (V1, STI, 9500I, X50, RX65), since, well, they have proven themselves.

But as always, with laser, there's always that degree of uncertainty. They can get your speed in under a second, especially if you have a front plate.

I have had a few cobra's and like them, they have saved me a few times and their priced pretty descent at about 100-120 depending if you get a voice one or not. But just remember even if ya get the top of the line detector, If they don't have their radar turned on its not gonna go off which becomes a problem when they turn it on right as you drive by, and also if they feel like being jerks they will give ya a ticket saying the power cord is obstructing your vision.

I've had a few Whistler's in the past and they have saved my butt more times than I can remember. I don't think I've spent more than $100 on any of them. Well worth the money IMO. I've gone on road trips with a buddy of mine and he's got one he paid $500 for and my Whistler picked up everything his did at the same time. As for the "obstructing your view," I have mine hardwired into my ignition wire. Turns on and off whenever you turn the key. I tucked the power cord into the headliner and down the drivers side window pillar to the ignition. If you do this just throw in an inline fuse and get a good ground. You should have no problems.....I've done this in my last four trucks.

Well, I've had a K40, Bel RX65 Pro and my current Escort 8500. I have to say I am most happy with the Escort. They are all very close though. The K40 saved me many times but also went off a lot with false alarms. The Bel had some cool features but starting messing up on me. I bought it used so I couldn't make a warranty claim. The Escort has been flawless. The Bel and Escort are essentially the same yet slightly different.

ESCORT all the way!!! Depending on your price range, they have a variety to choose from. All the way up to fully installed stuff. The top of the line Escorts are more "advanced" obviously but any ESCORT product is top notch! I have had ESCORT for many many years, all the way back to the monsters that used to sit on my dash. I would not have anything else!

Look into the upper echelon Escorts. The hidden ones are insane!

its a waste of money to buy a top of the line radar when you are driving a pickup truck around. for under $200 i picked up a Beltronics 955. Works great, picks up every cop I've seen on the highway. My dad also uses one in his SRT8 Jeep and has been 100% satisfied as well. My buddy also tells me it uses the same hardware as the Escort X50 which is a couple hundred dollars more.

It's more like the software of the RX-65 from Bel. All the new Vector series have the same performance, just different features.
