Post Hey, Mudder.... grille guard question...

You've got the Manik grille guard, right? If so, how does it mount to the front end? I couldn't find the pix I was looking for, but on the 99-ups, does it require trimming of the airdam, and can it be done at home, or do you recommend having it installed? Also, would you recommend the one-piece or the modular one?

Cool

I have one on my truck and there is no trimming at all. it just bolts onto the frame using holes that are already there. I think it tokk me about 25 minutes to do. Really easy.

Coolm thanx, Steveo... just the info I was looking for... saves the $75 installation charge. :-) Now, what about the one-piece versus the composite... any thoughts? (I also wonder if the moldings are available in white instead of black?

Haven't left yet, flight leaves at 8:10 PM.

Yep, the Manik is a great grill guard, I like it very much. I have the composite I believe. Took 30 minutes, no trimming at all.

Cool... thanks, guys. I'm gonna order a Stainless one, but I'm not sure if I want to go with the composite or the one-piece.... I'm thinking that the one piece would be nice, because if it ever became necessary, I could remove the wings (maybe future state inspections and such) or if I ever managed to tweak one of the corners, I could simply order the part instead of the whole guard. But then, I would need to hunt down some stainless fasteners... I think they have tham at the boat shop near me...

Any ideas for sources online for the guard? I've found a ton of places that advertise them, but they all say, "call for price" and most aren't even close to local, so shipping would mean lots of $$$$$!! Suggestions?

Thanks.

I have the one piece and I think that I like that idea better. Something about bolting it all together is just not for me. I like the welded look. For DMV the cages that cover the lights do come off that is what I am going to have to do. Hope that helps. MUDEER make sure to take some good pics in Vegas.

I got a price from a dealer around here... 750 for the stainless. However, he claims that the air dam MUST be trimmed... even showed me on his 2wd, but I think the 4wd has a different air dam, right? don't the brackets drop it below the chin spoiler?

He also claims that the 6" KC Daylighters (Mudder, you're a bad influence!) won't mount on it becaust the holes are too close to the grille.... Mudder?

I could always make up a bracket, though. (I work in a Ford machine shop for cryin' out loud!) I think he was full of it, though.... the salesman, not you, Mudder... :-)

Cool

You shouldn't have to trim at all. The mounting brackets should bolt up to holes for the tow hooks, and stick out the the tow hook cut outs on the air dam.

Here's a pic of how I did my bracket for the two other KC's.

GIJOECAM,

If you are talking about getting a Manik then that guy is full of it. The lights will fit just fine. They don't even come close to hitting the grill. You will be of buddy.

Stump Jumper...
Tha Manik or the lights?

Mudder... What's a good price for the 165 Watt Stainless daylighters? I had heard that they had stopped making the 165s in lieu of the 150 watters.... I fugure you should know, if anyone! :-)

Stumpjumper,

I think I payed about $485 for my Manik, I could be wrong though.

GIJoeCam,

That is correct, they stopped making the 165, and went to 150 watt. Can't really tell a difference, same brightness. As for the price, what I have seen is $135 for the stainless, and those are the most expensive. I have 4 of those, with 2 bein chrome, and the other 4 black. If you have a black guard, I suggest black lights, and chrome guard, well either stainless or chrome, it's your call. I'm not sure how much KC is selling them for on the site, have a look see at http://www.kchilites.com
