Question Viper Alarms

Does any one know where to pick up a Viper alarm and where you can go to have one installed. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks everyone!

dont go to best buy or circut city. they are stupid and wont do a good jub. look in the phone book for stereo shops who install alarms. ask to see one of thier installs. a small place will do a better job than a big one because the small guy wants a good reputation. make shure it is a good p[lace though and not a Shady there today gone tomorrow place.

Cool

Major chain stores will do a good "job", if you find the right personnel. ANY shop, or install for that matter, is only as good as the person who does the work. As a former owner of a three man shop, as well as a Manager for one of the major chains, I can tell you this will always be true...and even though I am out of the car stereo business now, I can show you my still current MECP Master Installer certification to back what I say.
BTW, 2000F150HD, before you post a flame to somebody, try a spell check-"Circuit","jub","sure", "place", and appropriate capitalization will assure you don't look like some overopinionated jackball who can't type. (rant mode off)

Thumbs down

I stay away from major chains whenever possible. I would rather communicate with the person doing the work one to one. A good 90% of the Big chains don't care about you on the sales end, much less how well of a job they do on the installation. Alot of the sales staff have no knowledge of the products they sell. This is not meant as a flame, but what I have noticed through personal observation.
Too many times I have been treated as a second class citizen by the big guys,so I no longer give them my business.
Just my opinions, not anyone elses,I'm guessing 2000F150HD has run into the same sort of problems I have ,,,,98

im not trying to "flame" and by the way im sorry about my spelling but i type fast and dont check it so..... you get what you get. besides you got the point. if you think im "some overopinionated jackball who can't type" thats fine. and you are right i cant type and i am opinionated(isnt everyone). and im shure you have more knowlege about this than me but was was just relating my opinion that small places do better work(usually). i personally would check out all the local places. go with what you feel is best. and since when i went to the chains they wouldnt show me work and i heard horror stories....so i went elsewhere. i eventually decided to install my alarm myself and im perfectly satisfied with the work. pretty good for a jackball eh.

Talking

What the heck is a jackball, anyway,LOL
The only pieces of electronics I didn't install myself, were my alarm(Viper) and the head unit(Kenwood) I have been satisfied with both installs. They were both done at little shop at the 610 and 18th St. intersection,in Houston. A-1 Car Stereo,,,small 3 to 5 man shop, including the owner. They had my alarm and head unit installed in less than two hours! this included tinting the upper windshield, and adding a trigger for the snuglid. Good work!(gloat mode off),,,,,,,98

Hey, Steve. You're from Palm Beach, can't you vote for both?j/k

I still vote for the major chain guys. If they screw it up, the pockets are deep enough to fix it.

hehe.... yea the oldies here cant vote. oh well. that is true about them being able to fix it. but im the type who wants it done right the first time. i have learned that if i want something done right i should just do it myself. i could just have bad luck but it seems people always mess up on installing things. i have installed alot of car stereos but i wasnt shure about the alarm. it turned out to be scary(so many wires and i dont want to mess up my truck) but not too hard. you need a good wireing diagram a multimeter and the directions in the kit and it isnt too hard. but it took me a long time. if i had to do it again it would be quicker but it is probably worth the 100 to get it installed.

I had a viper 550 installed at CC and was not impressed. (98 expedition)

I think I lost more functionality then I gained.

Originally my key bob would let me unlock/lock the doors with no problem. The viper key bob will only unlock the door if the alarm has been armed. Then you click disarm and the vehicle with unlock. Its just annoying if you happen to lock the doors while getting out of the vehicle and want back in.

The outside flood lights no longer work in conjunction with the viper unlock feature.

The viper starter kill doesn't work. CC said it couldn't tie into the factory alarm system.

I have yet to get it to give me a warning chirp. The stock horn alarm was louder than the new siren.

when it was first installed the led blinked about twice a second. It wouldn't arm correctly and my turn signals no longer worked. I had to take it back to have part of it rewired.

The thing that annoyed me the most was that someone decided it was necessary to try to dismantle my keys. They took the little plug out of the end of them. I guess thinking there was something cool in it. They lost one plug and smashed the other one back in place.

Maybe I'm a whinner but I thought it was a very unprofessional install.

Angry

I went to the local Best Buy here in Detroit, hoping this one would maybe change my mind. Guess what, the same! I asked the guy working in the car stereo dept. what the wattage would be if I used a particular amp in the three channel mode.
He had no idea, and also had no paperwork for the amp in question that could tell me either. I thought of talking to the manager, but figured he would be no better. The CS guy generally was of no help at all,and didn't give a s**t that he wasn't,that's what really got me. He was trying to get rid of me so he could talk to his buddy. I might go to a Best Buy again, but only to buy something off the shelf that I already have knowledge of,,,,,98

i have no problem buying things from chain stores because they are cheaper. but i wouldnt let those high school drop outs touch my truck. the alarm in my truck is working perfectly. the reason your domelights and bed floodlights dont come on with the unlock is because you either dont have or havent hooked up the domelight supervision relay. the reason your blinkers stoped working is beyond me. the only reason i can think of is if they are stupid enough to cut the parking light wires to wire in the light flash output. or they could have possibly been trying to install a ghost switch. but that is most likely beyond thier knowlege. if anyone needs help with an alarm i would be glad to help them just drop me a line.
