Floor Jack

Not sure where else I would put a question like this, but, I'm in desperate need a good, quality 3ton floor jack. I was planning to use my neighbors but it completely fell apart. He bought it from Autozone not even 3 months ago and I don't want to spend $119 on something that will break in a few months.

Where's a good place to get a quality jack?

Sears has a couple of good 4 ton floor jacks. I picked one up on sale for $95 a while back. It was a low profile, high lift jack, 19" and some change.

I like the Roush jack I got at Sam's Club, $75.

I picked up a Truck and SUV jack from Nothern Tool a few weeks back for $79. It works perfect, and i can actually get the tires off the ground by jacking it up on the hitch. It is rated at 3.5 tons and lifts up to 22". Whatever you do, DO NOT by the aluminum race jack from sears. I've had 2 so far give out on me and they dont replace it after 90 days. That was the biggest waste of $400 (2 x 200 each).

This is exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks guys. Hearing WHAT NOT to buy is just as good as WHAT to buy.

Spend the extra and get a good 4 ton. It will work better and last longer.

Thumbs up Quality jack

Does Sears even carry a real jack any more? Few places do. My old man has a 20 year old Sears 3-ton that you you need a chain hoist to get off the ground.

I did a ton of research last year when I decided to buy mine. Cheapest quality floor jack I could buy was a 2.25 ton Norco. IIRC, Taiwan made with Japanese seals (I'm sure of the seals), I wanna say it ran somewhere over $200. What I did find out echoes the above posts, the aluminum "race jacks" are trash, at least the affordable ones are.

Best bet is to budget or save up for a quality unit you won't end up taking to a hydraulic shop to repair. I abuse a skid loader on a regular basis, cylinder repair is a pain in the *** even when it isn't expensive.

Pic of Norco jack: You won't be sorry.
