Post Can You Lift A 4x2 And Keep Original Wheels

I thought I read somewhere on this message board that if you lifted your 4x2 with spindles or by using Fabtechs hardware you cannot use your original wheels. I have a 98 F150 STX Reg. Cab and it came with the 17in. wheels and I like them and really do not wish to replace them. I am just looking to level the truck give it a 4x4 look nothing more any suggestions would be helpfull also I do not want to use a body lift(I think that is what its called the little plastic blocks you put between the frame and the bed and cab) so I know that I am really limiting my options. Thanks for the help.

Cool

Yeah, you can keep the wheels if ya want...but you are gonna have a hard time findin tires to fit the 17"s. You can go with a 265/70/17, I know almost every tire company makes that, or you can put some 34's on there if you go high enough, cause Mickey Thompson makes a 34/12.50/17. But there aren't a lot of big tire choices out there for 17's, that I know of. But yeah, you can keep the wheels, if you don't want to change, you don't have to. What size tire do you want? Good luck in your choice.

Hey, Mudder (or EXTINGUISHFIRE), who makes the 3.5" spindles? I thought all the spindles were 3" lift. Anyway, nice truck EXTINGUISHFIRE. Those are the 285/75/16's right? InfiniteMhz, you could also use wheel spacers with the stock wheels if you want to keep them. But look around for prices and make sure you know how much more backspacing you need, because it makes a difference in the cost of the wheel spacers. Talk to a wheel and tire shop to get the backspacing of your wheels, and then you will know what (if anything) you need to do. By the way, Fabtech says that you need a maximum 4 and 5/8" backspacing on your rims to use their a-arm lift.

Just installed Pro Comp spindles this weekend. I got 3.25-3.5" of lift.(Driver side was .25" higher than the passenger side). I measured with the stock tires(255/70-16) to see how close they came to the upper a-arms @ full steering lock. There is about .75" of room, so I think the largest tire that wouldn't rub would be 275/70/17 with a spindle lift & stocker wheels.

I wanted my truck to have a 4x4 look not so much a 4x4's functionality although I could use the extra ground clearance occasionally. So I was looking to put BFG All Terrians on my 17in wheels does anyone have these on there trucks?

I have the 3" spindle lift with my stock wheels and tires(255/70/16). Good luck with the 17" wheels. I'm about to get new tires and wheels(I think) as well. I'm looking into 305s or 285s.
