fuel filter

ok, so i figured it is time to replace the fuel filter on my truck. i bought my new fram fuel filter and tried to remove the stock one. thats when i got mad. i removed the inlet by popping the clip up, but the oulet is different. the clip came off, but i cannot get the line off of the filter. whats the trick, is there a specific tool i need to use or do i just need to treat it like a red-headed stepchild?

2003 f-150, 4.2L V-6 5-speed.

There are these little fuel filter pieces bought at the auto parts store. Usually there are about 5 in a set and basically they are round plastic clips, look like Pacman's and you clip them on the filter nipple and squeeze together and try and push off the rubber line. All it does is take it over the lip on the fuel filter. It aint easy even with this thing but it's needed. You autoparts place will know and explain by showing you.

I just changed mine in my 04 using the special tool from Autozone... Took about 5-10 mins some real tugging on the line and I wore some gas for a little bit afterwards...

i just replaced mine and what you need is that pack at autozone with about 5-8 plastic pieces in it around 10$, dont let them talk you into getting that two sided metal clamp looking tool because it WONT WORK, i also had to unbolt the mounts on mine once i got it off in order to get it out and get the new one in.
