question for blue20004x4

Was looking at blue20004x4's thread on fan installs.... coouple questions for you all out there.... once the stock fan and clutch are removed do you just replace the OE bolts with short ones to keep the pulley in place like on a GM motor? also will that flex a lite PN work on an '01 4.6? Third is the power gain really that significant?

Howdy brother, just gotta say, the bolts will not even need to come out. The clutch is a threaded nut on a post going to the center of the w/p pulley. So, you will need a wrench to fit the clutch, and some larger channellocks to hold two of the pulley bolts while you turn the clutch nut. You need some room too for leverage. That is all, the clutch assembly basically threads on a snout on the water pump. As far as bieng worth it, I'd say ya, not huge but efficient and gas friendly a bit. The performance will be noticed, but again, just noticed, like 10 rwhp or something. It does make the A/C colder in the city. Any more ???, lay it on us.

P.S, this will work on your truck no prob, pretty much every f-150 made from 97-06.

Thanks a bunch, I was concerned that this mod might require a new pulley, but I'm thinking that with my headers/flows/K&N kit/fans and programmer (once I have the dough saved) I'm gonna like the increase

It won't beat vettes, but it'll be a good increase. I too am thinking headers, but maybe later if I do some major work like head gaskets.

I hear that, that's why if I have it all apart I'll do it then, but we'll see. The only thing with the fans is wiring and knowing where to tap in etc. Read that thread I started about tips for install, may be back a ways but there is some external sites to check and helped tremendously. Have someone good at wiring/ soldering there if your not good yourself. I also set mine by guessing, seeing when the stat opens then setting it to come on a little after that. I guessed pretty good by the looks of it, they kick on at the right time it seems.

I'll definately need somone there for my wiring purposes, I dont jack with electricity, how many options do you have on seeting the fan kick on temp? And when do you want them to come on, when the T-Stat opens? I have electrics on my latemodel, but they are on a manual switch and I turn them on if my temp gets over 195...

I guess you want them to come on a little while after the stat opens, definetely not right away. Everyone suggests and maybe I will to, getting an infared thermometer to have them come on about 200 degrees, stat opens at 192 I think. I also spliced under the fuse box to the a/c signal wire, it was grey with a white stripe for me, yours may be different. All that does is kick the fans on when the compressor clutch kicks in. The instructions are decent, but read em well and those other links I mentioned for tips.
