Performance Combos
I don't have a 5.4, but from what I've read on this board the HP claims are probably pretty close or only slighlty exagerated. All these mods are popular - although probably not that many go for the headers, too.
I am skeptical about the mileage claims.
Make sure the chip included is a Superchip, as some of the other brands only increase power at wide open throttle. The superchip also improves automatic shifting a bunch!
Yes, the chips will require premium fuel.

That's only a good deal if its a good chip. The claims are, of couse, best case scenarios, so I would only expect about 80% of their claims in the real world. Find out about the chip and if it's a Superchip (not SuperChip), or even a Hypertech, it may be a pretty good deal. Whatever you do, make sure it is not a Jet chip.
Have seen performance combos packages in the 4X4 magazines offering a significant increase in HP/Torque/Milage. The two that catch my are:
55 HP/50 Torque/20% milage increase: Gibson exhaust, Chip, and Gen. II K&N air filter starting at $499.99
70 HP/95 Tourque/25% milage increase: Headers, Gibson exhaust, Chip and Gen. II K&N air filter starting at $799.99
Understanding these are max gains based on the vehicle/engine, I'm curious why these are not more popular. Seems like a lot of "uumph" for the money. Considering gas prices, seems as though the milage gain would in turn pay for the package? Especially interesting is the milage gains.
For a 5.4L Ford (again, actual gains may vary) the second package would create 330 HP/445 Tourque/16 city - 21 higway milage.
That's a lot of bang for the buck even if the starting at price increased by a few hundred.
Questions:
Has anyone purchased, and if so, seen comparative increases as compared to advertised increases?
From my reading, the chip would require use of super unleaded?
Will these mods make California emission standards unattainable?

If you don't mind advice from a retired Navy F150 owner, you can order your own unique set up for about the same bucks. Everyone is right about the Superchip! See my signature for my mods. Great performance improvement. Airaid, Superchip, and flowmaster cost me about $675. Hope this helps.

You can haggle with some of those prices they offer I did but decided on the superchip instead,Payed $230 chip,$259. Gibson dual rear,$60 tips,$185 K&N fipk with cleaner all prices shipped to my door and installed by me.Total $734. Started with 99 5.4 260 HP not sure what it is now but definately a lot quicker and meaner. If you purchase in peices I think most members would agree on chip then air then exhaust.

I would guess the advertisements you were looking at are from a place called Ultra Performance. Their store is just a few miles from my home and I had them install my Gibson exhaust. I talked to a couple of guys that work their was told about dyno testing of installed parts. They have an impressive store display of wheel/tire combo's as well as performance parts for cars and trucks.
Before you spend your money you might contact them to see how the numbers were developed.

I installed the Superchip, then the FIPK, then the Gibson cat-back. You'll notice a definite difference in the seat-of-your-pants test. Most of it came after installing the chip though. My gas mileage is 11-12 City and 14-15 Hwy. I'm not sure, but I think mileage worsened after the cat-back installation. I've seen others mention the same thing before. But, then again, it does weigh 5500lbs with me in it, so what can I expect in mileage? I'm happy with it.
